Beverly Hills Porsche, and my 993

I'm really excited about my 991 GTS Coupe. To me that car is a true supercar; fantastic in every way possible but also pleasant and practice to use as your daily driver (if it's typically just you or you plus one more). It's a complete hoot to drive and the limits are beyond what should be legal on the street. Which makes it a total hoot to drive on the street. Sure, I don't want to try to keep up with a Turbo S, but that's not what the car is about. It's a fantastic sports car or GT with all the modern conveniences. I absolutely, positively, beyond any shadow of a doubt love driving and looking at this car. I completely love the duck tail and throwback tribute Fuchs wheels.
And I'm really glad I'm getting to keep the 993 alongside the 991. They scratch a similar but different itch. The 993 is the best version of the most loved car I've ever owned, my 2.2 S. Seriously, it's basically the same car, only the best version of that car Porsche could possibly dream up. The fit and finish of my car is spectacular and the engineering is beautiful. We show the car and I love poking, prodding and cleaning every bit of our car. I have never, ever, ever found a place that wasn't well-designed and carefully built. The carpets and seat leather are FAR more luxurious than the 991. And I love the experience of driving it. It's just a beautiful mechanical thing that I very much appreciate. And, as you point out, there is nothing like the bank vault mechanical door closing.
My 991 GTS is waiting to be loaded on a boat in Germany. But tomorrow I'm looking forward to playing around with the 993 and on Sunday driving to and showing it at a local PCA concours, plus see a bunch of other people's cool Porsches. Really looking forward to it. Like I can't wait to drive and experience my 993.
I'm fortunate to be able to have this pair and several friends and family are disappointed that they don't have the chance to buy the 993. They're very special cars.

I had a similar story at our Porsche dealer. I was in to make an appt. to have the wheels balanced. The service manager walked all around the vehicle and expressed his like of the 993. He said they just don't make them like this anymore. I was pleasantly surprised at his reaction.

Happened to me at McKenna,
I pulled into the dealership to get a part I ordered and all the guys came over to look at my car; a new goober in a 991 was quite unpleased when they didn't want to hear his porsche as he backed in at the same time...They seemed to like my Cup exhaust (sales/ parts/ and even a few techs who were in the bay) lol.

A few years ago I got my wiper blades at my favorite Walmart for about $20. Couple months ago I went back to buy replacements, and they no longer stock the size for 993. Now I have to order online - thanks for the reminder! (never imagined anyone would need a "mechanic" to install them).
P.S. most of the stamps in my maintenance book from the '90s are from Beverly Hills Porsche. Guess they weren't all that bad. Mine still runs beautifully!

And this thread just ensured that I will take the keys to the Pcar when I head out the door tonight to the gym.

I no longer bring my 993s to BH Porsche for a couple reasons:
1) Ron Burkle's 993 Turbo S was stolen
2) After I pick up my car I get a call, "Hi, I noticed you have an old Porsche Turbo, how about trading it in for a brand new one?" Then they call at least 2 more times
For my 2012 Turbo S, I bring the car to them and they even honored a warranty claim 2 days after my warranty expired. As they should. All in all, they are good, not great. I just take my rare air to an independent shop- Red Line on Robertson. Problem solved

...but yeah, we all get the point. That kind of solid craftsmanship is rare these days. And this from every aircooled 911 of which I've had the pleasure to close a door; remarkable!

I've heard some stories like this as well-maybe things have changed
