Anyone have a VW R32 as "Daily Driver?"
The R32 ( i just bought the 2008 model) as a Daily Driver and I'm very impressed by it, performance wise it is as quick as my 993. Does anyone else here have the R32 as a daily driver?
Cheers,
Bert

Hi Bert,
I purchased a 2004 R32 a few months ago. The car was listed here on Rennlist, my second Rennlist acquisition. The car was lovingly cared for by the PO and is in mint shape with 65,000 miles. What a fun daily driver. Peppy V6, and handles like an auto cross star!
I threw some 17" wheels on for the winter. The brake calipers up front are so big I needed to put special low profile weights placed on the very edge of the wheel.
Enjoy the ride, and good to see you still lurking around the 993 Forum.

A coworker is the original owner of a mkIV R32 with less than 40k miles. I told him when he is ready to sell I am ready to buy. It wouldn't be a daily driver but I would put some miles on it.

The R32 doesn't get the publicity it deserves. Besides its speed and handling, braking is phenomenal. It has among the shortest 70 mph-0 ever, beating vehicles multiply more expensive.

The R32 doesn't get fancy Brembos like the Mitsu and Subie do, but its large, vented rotors (13.1 inches in front, 10.1 at the rear) provide Carrera-like deceleration, needing just 158 feet to halt from 70 mph-eight fewer feet than the STi and one more than the Evo.

OG owner of a 2004 with ~30k miles. Don't think I will ever sell. Sound is intoxicating, and the way it pulls out of switchbacks....well I don't think many things compare to it.

MKV R32's are definitely fun as a daily driver. Same with the MKIV gens. At my buddies shop they turned his MKIV into a land speed record car that has over 1,000HP! Just don't neglect your Haldex service. We had a lot of customers that didn't even know about its servicing needs and even had some bad outcomes because they never had them done.

I was actually test driving a new '04 when we (salesman who had just sold his 993 and I) spotted the Aerokit C4S I instead bought for similar money. Then, two years ago when considering an '08 model as a runaround car, the 996 R Turbo dropped in my lap. If I don't need a truck, which I do for over 90% of my local, urban, driving time, I can't find a use case for anything but some 911 variant. Equal money, equal cost to run, completely unequal driving experience.

For those that aren't aware; the MKIV was a one year only model, 5,000 total units in 4 colors (blue, black, silver, red). The resale value is much stronger as compared to the MY08 version (due to the fact that it was a 6 speed). A lower mileage, stock example commands a mid $20's price; sticker was around $30k.

The MKIV R32 is one of the cars I was looking at for a winter car. Very cool little vehicles I think.
Having never looked into them until recently I was surprised to see that they do bring a lot of money. (Or I should say, more than I thought they would).
Most in my area are rather high mile or have rust issues but would definitely consider one if the right car came around.
