First P-Car, Intro and Pics
Hi, my name is Andy. Have been lurking around the forum for a long time now (joined since 2006)....was going to pull the trigger ten years ago... I know…should of, would of, could of….but then came the wife and three kids...
Anyhow, fast forward ten years, finally had the chance to get back into the market at end of last year and started to look seriously for a 993 C4S. Originally was looking for a White on Black (still looking by the way!), but came across this ’98 Arctic Silver/Classic Grey driver (with 137k miles) from another well known RLer/Collector with all the options I liked (Aluminum Dials/Shifter/E-brake, Litronic, Motorsound w/ Big Oval). It was too hard for me to pass up so I bought a plane ticket to check out the car and started my slippery slope...
I actually had the car for few months now. Although there were no major issues when I bought the car, there were still some cosmetic and deferred maintenance items needed to be addressed. Especially after 20 years, all the parts seems so fragile…
First thing first, been an Engineer and a little OCD myself, I started with cleaning up all the botched installs and wirings of the aftermarket Headunit and the "built-in" garage opener (Actually found an actual garage remote soldered in the wiring...) from the car's previous life. While I was doing that, I swapped in the Alpine 7618 deck I had since ’94 with custom aux input for a much cleaner sound and added an iSimple Bluetooth streaming/hands-free kit. Here are some other repair/upgrade items I did for the past few months (Took me many long nights in the garage after wife and kids were asleep...)
Repairs
Replaced Fan Belt Sensor
Replaced Starter
Replaced Motor Mount
Replaced Front Seat Drive Shaft
Repaired/Re-dyed Driver and Passenger Seats and other trim pieces
Repainted Big Red Calipers
Added an additional Key Fob (this turned out to be a huge PITA because the immobilizer was not the original from the factory, and the code from the dealer didn’t work. Had to send the unit to ECU doctor and found out the hard way….)
Upgrades
Turbo S Ducts
Clear Corners
V1 Hardwired
Walrod Bushings
5mm Wheel Spacers all around
Added new tweeters (one of the old ones blown)
Changed interior/footwell/frunk/engine bay lights to LEDs
Planned Upgrades (Anyone in the area has these installed maybe can give me a ride?)
Suspension (PSS10 or ?)
Golden Rod
SSK?
Finally at the point that I feel like I can start to enjoy the car with confidence!
I am located in SoCal Pasadena area and hope to see other RLer around!

What a pleasant introduction!
I am digging the old Alpine w/ the six translucent buttons. And the footwell lights.

BTW Andy - Im sending hopes your way that at least one of your three kids ends up sharing your Porsche passion!
We only had one kid and she does not share my passion. She is waiting for self driving cars instead of being a car nut .... Hot sure what happened there.....
BTW - did the leather on your shifter boot somehow fade to a different color than the rest of your classic grey interior? Or is that something with the lighting?

Andy - Nice C4S snag and welcome to the Forum. You've done some nice work here. And like yourself and Jlaa, I am digging those old green Alpine buttons. Those units where the sh#@ in their day! Very cool.
Have fun and congrats!
P.s. I wish I had seen this post before last weekend as I was down at the Glendale Hilton on business and looking for an early morning P-car buddy to have coffee with. We later hopped in my Chrsyler T&C rental and booked it up the Hwy 2 to some biker-bar (McQuarie Ranch?) for lunch. Fantastic road and met a couple P-car owners up there. Next time I'll give you a shout.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!
Thanks, it's actually my first car stereo headunit since high school, have been through several cars but just don't want to be part with it....They definitely don't make them like they used to
I actually have three girls (6, 3, and 1 yrs old), the older two like to ride in the back seat for now but we'll see how it goes....
The leather of the shifter boot looks ok in person and matches e-brake leather. I think it's just the lighting for it to look stand out.

Congrats on the pickup, Andy. I have a GRod and FD SSK sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. I'll let you know once I do (though probably won't have time for another month or so) and I can give you a ride if you haven't already had one, as I'm somewhat local to you.

congrats on a beautiful acquisition. i'm somewhat local and have a few mods. my 10 year old daughter loves the car and was my "navigator" on our road trip to rennsport last year.
