I went for a romp in Topanga yesterday and as soon as I reached the PCH to head home, my stick shift felt like it siezed up. The clutch felt normal. It still engaged and released perfectly, but getting in and out of gear suddenly felt like a gorilla was fighting against me. The only thing I can think of is that one or more of the cables siezed or lost lubrication or something. I drove it home fine but like I said, getting it in and out of gear took a good bit of pushing and pulling. Anyone experience this? Thanks!!!

Immediate thought is to check your shift bushings and lower guide cups. Any grinding when going into gear or like your clutch pedal feel different?

This is what my brother posed as a possibility too. I never hit anything to cause any sudden shift. But I supposed it's possible.

If your tailpipe tips are lower than normal, that's usually a sign of failing motor mounts.

+ 1 on this thought...I think motor mounts, or trans mount bushing failure is more progressive in nature...But anything is possible when parts get to this age.

Check to see if there is black oil looking, but not oily fluid leaking from the back of the car. If so, failed motor mounts. If the motor mounts are original, they should be replaced anyway.

No oil. And tailpipes are not lower or askew.

Have you replaced or modified the shift rod at all?
