Back in the 993 club
Have been waiting a while to make this post. Late last year I decided everyone else was having too much fun with getting back in to the air cooled cars so I started looking around for a 993 as a bit of a project car. I used to have an iris blue 96 Carrera 4S back in Australia and sold it when I moved to the US.
I spend 1-3 months a year in Hawaii so when a 96 Carrera popped up I started thinking how I could work it into my travel plans. In the end I spent a week here in early January and checked the car out, had a PPI performed and then bought it. Bit of a weird purchase because I then saw the seller drive off in the car and look after it for 2.5 months while I was in Australia. Arrived back in Hawaii last week and picked up the car and managed to get out for a cruise today.
It was exactly what I was after, well except for it not being a wide body, as it requires a bit of work here and there and so I get to spread the cost out and have some fun at the same time. Was open to most colours and I seem to have a knack for finding blue cars. This is my third Porsche and all have been blue with iris blue, cobalt blue and now midnight blue. Plus all three of my current cars are blue.
A big thank you to Russ (got*ki) for working with me in what was not an ordinary purchase. With no national banks over here you can't just walk into a branch and grab a cashier's cheque or process a wire transfer... So there was a bit of trust on both our parts as I paid a lot of money for a title and then left the country and he had a car that he technically didn't own. All worked out and good to have another friend in Hawaii. Until you have experienced the aloha spirit you can't appreciate what it is like.
Well enough with the words, here's a few photos with many more to come over the next few months as I road trip it back to Florida. Yes I do realise part of it will be on a ship. The other way to justify the purchase to myself was I can finally do the road trip across the US. Most would buy an RV, I didn't... Won't be going straight either as the plan is to head up to Vancouver and then work my way back to Florida. Hope to meet a few RLers on the way.
Can't stand the US ride height although quite happy with it over here and the gravel beach parks. Pleasant change from the GT3.

Narrow body 993s have their perks too like lower drag coefficients. Congrats on the new old ride. Get that suspension overhauled (lowered with new shocks and bushings where needed) and you'll be a very happy camper!

Thanks everyone.
Wheels are OZ Mitto and I'm not a fan. Then again I wasn't a fan of the turbo twists on my C4S and 'put up' with them for about 9 years.
Palm Beach to Jupiter, as I don't have a permanent home. Lot of time travelling so I pick a new place each time I return. It's fun, except for the running around looking for a place. Again, the RV might have been a more sensible choice.
It needs new shocks etc and that was something on my list anyway. Have already been scouring the threads here for recommended setups. Narrow and wide body each have their good points. I just like the look of the wider rear a bit more.

Narrow your search to Bill V's recommendations on suspension and you won't go wrong. It does depend to some extent on how stiff Vs compliant you like it.
