Default Porsche Classic offering new design 993 shock absorbers

Theres no date on the Porsche article so I'm not sure when this was posted, but I havent seen it discussed on RL.

http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...ckabsorber993/

Seems like an interesting product, especially for the people who want comfort instead of coilovers and RS ride height.

Did you notice this "upside-down technology" business? Is anyone aware of any aftermarket shocks for our cars that have this design?

the front axle setting has been changed to upside-down technology together with single-tube gas pressure dampers. The piston rod is now supported at the bottom of the damper. The cartridge projects from the top of the working cylinder which also contains the gas pressure cushion.
Also, instead of the fixed height and drop link of the Monroes, these have the usual Bilstein B6/B8 adjustable drop link with a single locking collar. I would have liked to see an additional locking collar.

Dont know about automotive suspension applications, but inverted suspension technology has been incorporated on production motorcycles since the early 90's.

Why would you buy something new from Porsche for the 993 that the original part was mediocre at best?

"Porsche Classic" = paying 3X for something for that another company specializes in and probably does better.

Every torsion bar 911 chassis with OE Bilsteins. Little roll pin secures the damper rod down by the ball joint.

Better than the originals? That's a pretty big claim.

Pss10 is adjustable, Porsches solution not. I'd pay a few more $ and get the 10's.

Here's the "upside down" front damper for the torsion bar cars with Bilstein struts.

Note the bump rubber faces down.

...And 10's are rebuildable too. Not enough info on the new component, but I'd wager its a throw away like the OEM Monroe units. Kinda even looks like a Monroe

In what way, Mike?

Thanks to modern technology, todays dampers are better than the originals in mostly ALL functional aspects.

It's just that the OE Monroes were found to be so incredible. I mean they would give mediocre performance for up to 25k miles sometimes!

Default As they say...

"Screw me once, shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me."

Some how this old saying seems to resonate.
