Default engine rebuilt

HI everybody, I going to remove the pump steering pump lower wheel. Do i need to counter hold the nut on the cam in the chain case to loose the nut in power steering pump ?

I held the lower wheel itself when I did mine.

since in want to pull out the camshaft inspect it. Just want to make sure now, It need to counter hold the camshaft to remove the power steering pump lower big wheel.

Ideally, you would want to.

But if you are using an impact wrench, you should be okay. But would pinch the power steering belt and hold onto it to make sure it doesn't move.

Also, turning the nut counter-clockwise on the power steering pump end actually turns the cam clockwise at the cam housing end (which should be OK).

Thanks for the imput. Another question, I don't have Porsche special tool 9582 to counterhold camshaft sprocket to remove the camshaft nut . What alternation tool can do it ?

You can also use an impact to break loose the camshaft nut.

BUT the problem is when you are putting things together, you need the tool to hold them together so you can torque up the nut to the appropriate value. The same goes for the power steering nut.

So in the end, you need the tool.

There is no substitute for the proper tolls when working with cams.

That was the only special tool I had to buy when doing my rebuild (not counting angle gauge and dial gauge which I regard as measuring instruments rather than tools).

I found the best price at Automotion. No affiliation, YMMV etc.

another quedtion. From the chain case wheel there are no mark to show it is on TDC 1 or not ?
