Default plug-n-play speakers

..soooo..on a spur of the moment purchase, I brain-farted and failed to actually look at what speakers I need and ordered these Helix speakers.

Can anyone recommend a decent plug and play option for the front hifi optioned system? Just looking for something simple to install:

Look for threads by user NP993, who rebuilt his HiFi speaker boxes (sorry can't find the thread), then sold them later(for sale link below, with some pointers to speaker options):
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-speakers.html

DynAudio are some of the speakers that fit in the mid-range placement. Mine look like yours...totally destroyed.

Here's pilotjosh's thread on replacing the speaker boxes. A really nice job that I hope to soon replicate.

While not exactly what you want, you may find some useful info in these threads I've been collecting on stereo replacement options:

Thanks a lot Keith. It appears to just be a royal pain in the @$$. While I would probably enjoy the DIY, it's just too much to add to my pile of other projects. This dang job keeps getting in the way of all my free-time.

I think I can get a new amp, some decent speakers throughout and installation for about $1K. I may treat myself to it for Christmas. Still a lot to spend for a system that will always be competing with the music of SuperCups though....

Has anyone tried these front speakers from carnewal: http://www.carnewal.com/products/P93...ment-Speakers-

Or these rear HiFi speakers: http://www.carnewal.com/products/P93...s-for-P93-Cars

These look like they could be good plug and play options.

Got these. Slight trim then screwed in place. Mine looked like your mids too.

avidtest,

For a perfect plug and play solution, investigate having your front M490 option speakers re-coned. A Google search should identify a shop in your area.

Tympany Vifa Speakers has just the ticket. It's a modestly priced ($30. USD) 2.5 inch, 4ohm, full spectrum w/neodymium/aluminum chassis;Tympany (formally Vifa) model NE85W-04. See link below. ..

It is 100% plug N play when fitted to the Porsche 993's optional #490 Hi Fi speaker options door enclosure. The Vifa spkr's. 4ohm operation will suit the OEM Nokia amplifiers operation without issue. The original OE 80mm /2.5" full range is 6ohm rated. The Vifa NE85W-04 units sensitivity is also favorable for our use; dB@2.83V/1m dB 84.81-SPL (good sensitivity for a spkr. of this type.) Installation requires fabrication of a 1/8" to 1/4" gasket of some type; foam weather strip, etc.

The acoustic performance of the ViFa model NE85W-04 is light years beyond the OE sourced Full range 80mm/2.5 inch by Nokia/Porsche.

Spec's : http://www.parts-express.com/pedocs/...spec-sheet.pdf
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Vifa-NE85W-04.../dp/B002WE1ATM

Full disclosure .. I have no champion in this fight. This unique speaker can be purchased thru Amazon, Parts Express, Madison Sound Speaker Store, etc. Also easily available in the UK, Europe, etc.

Additionally:
A Bang & Olefsen specified 130mm woofer, same pillow chassis architecture, can fit the 993 Hi Fi enclosures bass-reflex loaded woofer position. With an ideal resonant frequency... FS39Hz, it's tailor made for the 993's bass-reflex cabinet arrangement. PM me .. the speakers are on the house. If these workout (fitment presumes OEM Nokia amp present) then there's a viable solution moving forward. There cost online is a modest $29 USD or so. .. Sourced several examples in the U.K. years ago with the idea of enhancing the 993's HiFi door bass-reflex loaded enclosures w/Nokia. Just never got around to the task - subsequently favoring a fully active arrangement of OEM speaker locations. 100% stealth.

Mike,
What did you conclude about the factory HiFi boxes? Worth replacing speakers and keeping? Or go the pilotjosh route with a 6.5" on an MDF panel and pitch the factory boxes....

Have there been any new developments in this space in the last 4 years? Any true plug and play speakers one could recommend for the hifi optioned cars? Thank you!

Default Mid speaker replacement 490 option 993

I replaced the mid speakers in my 490 option 993 with the mid speaker from a Focal 165 AS3 component set. My local supplier in Wellington New Zealand (Streetsoundz) was very helpful and supplied these. They are 4 ohm vs the factory 6 ohm, they said the amp should handle them ok, we shall see. Fitting was pretty easy after making a 6mm ring from MDF to avoid them bottoming out in the housing. That also dealt with the slightly increased diameter. I had to trim the edge off the back of the speaker to fit it in the stock housing. Sounds great, much improved mid range clarity. MDF ring was made using 2 hole saws, start with about 85mm then screw that circle to the bench top and drill out 76mm to leave a ring.

Has anyone actually done this for the 993 hifi speakers?
