Michelin tires question
Which Michelin tire is preferred for our 993 nowadays? I'm not tracking the car, nor attending any DE's.
Options I see are:
Pilot Super Sport
Sport Cup 2
Pilot PS2

You don't want Cups for DD.
See if the Pilot Sport 4S is available yet in your size.
If not, go MPSS.

newest 4S will be made in 17 and 18 inch sizes just not available yet; per michelin rep. when will they be available? he couldn't commit to a date, but most likely sometime this year.

Super Sport is a great tire but not available in 205 for the front, so I went with PS2s. They didn't feel quite as great at a DE as the Super Sports did on my 128i, but they still seem like a really excellent tire. If you're running wider widths up front, I'd go with Super Sport or the new 4. Sport Cup 2 is not what you want -- that's an uber sticky, low treadwear track tire.

I just put the new Conti Extremecontact Sport on the C4S (they replaced the Conti DW) and I would rate them better than Super Sports, the old Conti DW was rated by Tire Rack better than PS2 so I assume they are even better than PS2. RE-71R is probably a better handling tire at speed, but will wear a lot faster and MAY be a harsher ride.
Pilot Sport 4S one would assume will be better than the Super Sport which it is replacing and if available in your size is a good option to consider.

I'm really interested in that new Conti Extremecontact Sport also. I've ran their DW and DWS tires and was pretty happy with both for the respective purposes. That'll probably be my next set of tires.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ in OEM Cup II 17 inch sizes ..
Andy - This spring & summer will be year two running Michelin's Pilot Sport A/S 3+ on the 993 C2S coupe. Last year I took a flier on a 4-set of the Pilot Sport A/S tire. The correct OE tire sizes are available if your running the stock 993 Cup II 17 inch alloys; 205/50 and 255/40/17.
While the Michelin PS2 are fantastic, hi-performance summer tires, the 993's rear axle wears through gummy summer tires on-the-quick. Being rear weight biased ,,,, I'm changing out Michelin PS2 tires before the wear bars are truly prominent, say on average btw 9K miles - 11K miles. ..Quick, wears fast.
If the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ wear trend (Flier) continues, I'll get 20k miles or two spring/summer seasons on the rear axle out of this Michelin tire type.
P.S., Don't even think about running the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 in the snow! Ask me how I know. .. Before the start of autumn '16 a 4-set was fitted to our '06 Subi Outback XT wagon, its left in Colorado year around. .. This past winter the usual (Dunlop SP M3) winter snow tire practice,,, got away from us. .. Big mistake not swapping to winter M&S tires. .. The A/S 3-season (cold temp) tires although relatively new are not dedicated M&S winter sneakers, Subaru AWD or not. .. City/town speed braking on packed snow (10F Vail) was white knuckles. . .
Having run the 993 with Michelin's PS2 performance summer tire for more than a decade plus (OEM Cup II 17" stock alloy's) and dabbled w/ Pilot Super Sports and Pilot Sport A/S 3-season's fitted to VW GTI's and wife's Boxster... - Its a great 3 season "sport" tire.

I've had PS2 on my 993 before Current Dunlop StarSpecs. I did not find them all that great. Hell, I don't find any Michelin tire all that great in their price range. There are better and cheaper tires.
PS. TireRack reviews... is that even worth wasting electrons on?

+1 .. Couldn't agree more. Marketing trends as compiled by retailer Tire Rack is dubious at best.
The German periodical Auto Motor und Sport performs benchmark tire tests, annually. Many tire brands/type/model tires cross markets. Some do not.
Various tire sizes, tire types and vehicle applications .... It's all good.
Where needed, use a quality "browser" translator. There's a whole-lotta-good-tire types out there.
