All the "mods" are to me a sunk cost, they shouldn't be factored in the price as they depend on the taste of the person. It's part of the experience of owning a car, if you are into modifying.

Now, if the car has blown shocks, engine leaking like a fountain, ripped seats that this is not really "modifying".

As for the future, Elon Musk put it well:

“I think that all cars will go fully autonomous in long-term. I think it will be quite unusual to see cars that don’t have full autonomy,” Musk said. “Any cars that are being made that don’t have full autonomy will have negative value. It will be like owning a horse. You will only be owning it for sentimental reasons,”

I also see a bright future for race tracks

3K C2S white/marble with HB seats and twists bid up to $73,000 on eBay and didn't sell (obviously).

When the market is falling or soft like it is now, there isn't an urgency to buy. There aren't multiple buyers for same car, cars sit longer, you don't have to settle for less than what you're looking for. Many sellers who bought recently, and got in too high are in panic mode trying to sell for inflated prices to recoup $$ they couldn't afford it in the first place.

I've owned many of these, now spend my time buying horses. I look forward to buying a 993 again whenever the dust settles.
You sir, obviously have ice in your veins. buying horses! wow! I know nothing about them, except that the purchase price is the cheapest part...

That is my mindset as well. Those that go bargin hunting rarely find bargains.

Quite a few years back when a good 993 turbo was selling for $75k-$85k I saw one of my track friends buy one for the bargin price of $60k. It was a bit higher miles than most others so he rationalized the savings away. When the car arrived it was a rusty mess with leaky turbos and all. He said the seller offered him some spare wheels and snow tires. That was the first red flag. I on the other hand paid $75k for a mint arena red one with GT2 turbos. Who got the better deal?

I tend to think the more expensive car is the cheaper one in the long haul. Nice soft leather, clean OEM paint and rust free bodies are worth the 10-20% premium in my eyes. When the time comes to part ways I find buyers with similar values who appreachiate finding a clean example.

I have an oddball C2S with 226k miles on the clock. Rebuilt original engine, purchased from a big name on this forum. I have the itch to get into a 997.2 manual car and daily drive it into the ground. No idea what a car like mine would command, but I'd be ok with selling in the $50k range. Will I get it? Who knows. I'm sure I'll be a statistic pretty soon here.

I don't think sales have dramatically slowed. If anything I'd say sales have picked up a bit. If you look at the top 5 threads in the 993 forum. 3 of them are about new 993 purchases by enthusiast. Prices may have settled down and it seems like enthusiast here are snatching them up. Thats a great thing!

Default I'l be selling soon and here is what....

I will lead with:

1. Clean CarFax
2. Reams of receipts going back to 2000
3. Good leak down #'s all 5% or less, compression good too,
257 HP to the rear wheels,
4. Re-geared, 3rd - 6th,
5. Tasteful mods on the car
6. 87,XXX miles, not a garage Queen
7. Everything works
8. New tires, refinished wheels
9. Turn Key DE car if one is so inclined.
10. Grand Prix White (Porsche Racing Color I have heard)
11. Emissions compliant,
12. Price? Reasonable..to be determined.

Only selling because I was seduced by a white GT3, and I have not the space for 2 cars.

You sound exactly like me. I knew I wanted a darker color cab, but beyond that it didn't matter as much. I was really lucky to find my C4 Cab at the price I paid 5 years ago. It was an absolute steal and couldn't have been a better choice for me. It wasn't til after I purchased it and posted on here that I learned that the C4 Cabs are actually some of the lowest produced of the 993's. The market doesn't bear it, but they are relatively rare. This one will be in my family for a long time...

A bit OT here, but if one is so inclined, a Tiptronic/C4 is likely the best way "into" one of these cars (or a Tip + Cab!) if one is looking for a relative bargain. Crud, if I had the means, I'd get a Cab w/Tip (or with AWD if that's what popped up) myself as a DD. What's not to love?

Edward knows these things, a wise man. Get a "Tip" cheap...it includes a tranny oil cooler....then slowly but surely shop for a G50 6 Speed. Rebuild it/ Re-gear it? Have the case tapped for a tranny oil cooler, drop in the G50 6 speed, and you are on your way.

I sold my 95 Cab 6 speed a year ago due to personal reasons, I really didn't want to sell it. It was really clean with 60K ish miles. I sold it within 3 weeks, with strong interest from multiple parties. The guy that I sold it to now wants to sell it. He's had for sale for 3 months with no luck. I could probably buy it for 10% less then what I sold it for, but I'm not sure if I want to get back into a 993.

The market is definitely softer than it was a year ago.

If you can buy it for 10% of what you sold it for you'd be an idiot NOT to buy it back. I have a feeling you meant 90% of what you sold it for or 10 % LESS than you sold it for. That would be a harder decision. Sorry - but if I didn't say it, someone else would have.
