Question Experience with the new oil filters?

Does anyone have experience with the new Porsche MAHLE small filter? Purchased oil filters from the dealer for my bi-annual oil change and the small filter 993-107-203-03 (and 04) are superceded by 993-107-203-05. It is a previously verboten MAHLE filter but has the Porsche logo, is made in Austria, is the OC229 version and is now specified for the 993 turbo by Porsche. I've never had a smoking issue and certainly don't want one.

The big filter 993-207-201-02 is superceded by 993-207-201-03, also a MAHLE filter but with a Porsche logo, made in Austria and is the OC 213 version. Presume this is fine.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I think I used them on one 993TT (as recommended by Sunset), and seems to be fine over the summer, but he also has the 996 Check Valves in place. I know, I did not like that it is in a Porsche box and then Mahle is on the filter, especially when we thought if you saw a Mahle small filter on a TT, it's wrong!

Who knows why they superseded the last one, might be technical, or maybe financial? Have not had a chance to take one apart (yet).

Cheers,

Mike

I know we don't drive our cars much but someone must have changed their oil using the 5 series small filter in the last year?

Probably like many of us, I purchased many OE filters at once a few years ago so that they were always on hand when required - still have 4 or 5 changes worth. From my experience though, whenever there is a 'superseding' part its always OK.

Same

I believed I may have used the 05 filter last 2 oil changes with no issue. Although I change my oil due time as opposed to mileage because the car is driven infrequently these days.

I have had previous smoking problems due to use of old Mahle filters and overfill on another occasion.

Car has no mods (oil lines or check valves)

No issues in a decade.

Bringing this back. The new (05) filters dont appear to have the big rubber flow back seal. I have experienced by drivers side turbo filling up with oil. Confirmed by draining 10 oz of oil out of it. Its a newly refurbed turbo so I dont suspect the turbo itself. I have, supposedly, 996 check valves installed (prior owner) but it could be bad. Thoughts?

I've been buying them from Sunset - no issues to report. Regarding the check valve- I too noticed it was labeled Mahle but thought the view from the top looking down appeared to reveal the check valve

Just to follow up, I've had no problems with the new Porsche branded Mahle oil filters but I do have Turbocraft feed lines.
