Default gasoline smell pretty strong in cockpit

Maybe even left side of cockpit in my 993TT, inline with the fuel fil on left fender. However, no visible leak.

Any ideas?

This comment relates to a totally different car and I’m not sure yours has the same design but you can check.

I had a very strong gasoline smell in the cabin of my 79 SC years ago and we found that a vent line/hose was cracked. This hose runs from the gas tank in the front through the tunnel inside the center cabin to the engine compartment. Mine was cracked inside that tunnel. You wouldn’t see a leak but gasoline vapor smell is just as strong.

Just an idea.

By chance did you just top off your fuel before this started? Just for info, when fueling we have the tendency to allow the fuel nozzle to shut itself off when full, which is ok, but then we will add more fuel by clipping the nozzle handle to ensure it is in fact full. I have done this in the past on my 67 912 and inadvertently overfilled the tank which I learned the hard way that I should not do this. The fuel smell was really strong until I burned off the extra fuel.

I have never experienced this is my 993 but I have avoided over filling it.

Of course you may already know this but thought I would share my one time mistake.

I hope it’s something simple. RRC

The vapor return line terminates with a fitting on the expansion chamber on top of the gas tank I found an open or disconnected fitting on this return line on my TT .
This is the same line as any 964/993 I believe, may be worth checking these lines and the metal screw down clamps that hold them..

Like previous guy said, this will usually be a cracked EVAP hose or something. That and your firewall might have a hole somewhere, broken harness boot or something

Check your engine wiring harness for cracks/delamination. If its the original Porsche wiring harness it could be the problem. The original harness plastic jacket was made of a partial organic compound that can crack and delaminate. If you got water into your engine compartment there may be some arcing/ short circuit resulting in energizing of one or a few fuel injectors! It happened to me. see my current thread on here for specifics...
