Default Secan

Still have a brandnew Secan IC in the box!

After visiting carweek I am contemplating building another GT2 (R)ohr for the street. Got lots of other race car parts still on my shelf, stay tuned

It's interesting how well the Porsche base model and racing Secan intercooler solutions have stood the test of time.

Go for it! I just wrapped up mine and was well worth it, wish I had a secan IC but made due with an Andial one.

I found a used Andial IC a long while ago. Wish Andial were still around.

That gt2 IC project was something I was excited to try years ago but decided not to run a gt2 style wing. Unfortunately reducing the plenum size is going to cause airflow to pass mainly through the part of the IC closest to the intake which may affect its performance. To keep temps cool on track I ran extra oil coolers, methanol/water injection, and an Andial IC. Protomotive converted the motor to E85 a couple of years ago during a motor refresh and now it runs very cool w/o extra oil coolers or injection. Plus it’s fun to freak people out filling up at the gas station.

Marston in the UK made my 997GT2 intercooler cores which are pretty much as good as the Secan stuff, I actually facilitated a few sets of Marston cores for RS Tuning to use in different racing engines but they stopped producing them a few years ago apparently they were just not profitable to make which was interesting bearing in mind they were expensive, like $4000 per core (997tt size) !

What I found revealing was reading the bumf on the intercoolers CSF/PWR made for the 992 turbo S, they had a good info piece about them and the tech they used etc and to their credit they shared the cooling performance data, problem was the cooling performance was hardly better than stock, I would think they were pretty disappointed at the results after their laudable efforts.

There is a company Docking engineering in the UK who actually gave me the info about the Marston situation who seemed very clued up on this subject and seemed confident they could procure any customer wishes.

I will have some more information about Secan and what they are up to intercooler wise at the end of the month - I will share

Larger volume and larger pressure drop intercooler cores are one way to improve cooling.

Here’s a noob question, is there anything one can do to increase the ambient airflow thru the intercooler core? I am certain that this question is not new to the world, it must have been discussed and attempted numerous times over the last quarter century. However, it is a new idea to me, the Johnny Come Lately.

Someone put electric fans on, can’t recall if there was any data. I found that the engine fan does draw air in and a good seal around the tail to draw the air through the intercooler made significant difference. I logged pre/post turbo and ambient temps. Don’t recall off the top of my head but there was a big difference, and I think sealing/a good shroud is important. I think I posted about it somewhere.

Default 997 gt2 RS intercoolers

Not two, but three gt2RS cores, needless to say they perform pretty darn good.

^ nice, log some data and post if possible! Are you using a NA intake? Maf or pressure? I assume the ducts are for cold air intake (so not the warm air after going past the Ic)

Blowing thru a gt3 plenum towards a set of Rothsport Itb setup, map sensing, controlled with m600 Motec., etc, etc.

Default TA Technix

https://www.tatechnix.de/tatechnix/g...ml?language=en

has anyone tested and tried the ta technix 993 intercooler? If so does the stock shroud fit? What about intake temps vs stock vs secan vs andial etc.

thanks in advance

More of the same, not much better than the original.
