Default Buying a car from Germany...

Assuming I can't find exactly what I am looking for in North America I have been search ads in Germany to see if I can find one. I have read a few threads on the topic and the process doesn't sound too bad. Am I correct in thinking that there will be no smog/EPA issues with a 1996-1997 Turbo? And since i most likely won't be inspecting the car in person (a major flaw to this approach imo), is a PPI all I really have to rely on?

There have been other 993 threads on importing, I think you are correct on no Smog, but there may be "safety" / NA items. If you get to the "serious" point, put out a new forum post on "Rennlist PPI in Germany" and there may be 993 rennlisters in the region willing to be your "eyes" and assist with PPI shop.

If you import you also get access to '98s which we didn't get here. That's what I ended up doing. The importing is pretty straight forward. The shippers handle all the import paperwork for you. You also get a free Euro bumper

Here's one with softback sportseats. Pretty rare option. Looks like they may have been recovered.

I've never seen those seats in a 993 Turbo or a 1997 993 of any type. My guess is that they are not original to the car, and, at the very minimum, have been incorrectly recovered. Still a cool car with cool looking seats.
