Default auxiliary oil cooler same subject/different question

It’s 98 degrees and in traffic the oil temp hangs at 9:30. TOO HOT. I plan on using either a Turbo “S” or possibly a Ruf auxiliary oil cooler. My question is, has anyone who has added this configuration noticed any degradation in A/C out put?

If your problem is overheating in traffic, then you should install the oil cooler fan switch override. Neither the RUF or the Turbo S will do anything while you are not moving.

The cargraphics one will, but indirectly. If you turn on the A/C on high ( both ac buttons pushed in ), that'll turn on the A/C fan, which will draw some air through the condenser and indirectly through the cargraphics unit. Cooler car + cooler you.

No degradation noticed with the S cooler, I think the airflow through the condensor is great enough that the additional heat is inconsequental. Jeff- If the resistor is working properly, won't the fan come on high on the oil cooler side when it needs to? Also, I think the max A/C setting(big snowflake) overrides the normal setting(small snowflake), so only the max button needs to be pushed in.

Sure it will. But the slow speed comes on at 230F. The high speed comes on even higher! That's a bit too hot for my liking.

Rob how good are you at DIY's? I would skip the S cooler and put in a Mocal or Setrab cooler instead. Its the more effective radiator type instead of the trombone type that is the S cooler. I have priced out all the pieces and for one aux cooler using the better Mocal or Setrab cooler would be about $387 for everything. Then if you add Turbo S ducts the airflow to the AC condenser will be improved.
The design I drew up uses AN 12 fittings which are much bigger than the S cooler ones. Better flow.

OG,

I have been watching your posts with interest. I think that this much of a DIY is beyond my willingness threshold ( meaning I’d be afraid to tackle it). I think I would be better off with a kit and having my mechanic do the install. The only HP mods I see in the near future are ECU reprogramming and possibly tubos when they need replacing.

Hi Rob-I installed the RUF aux cooler this spring on my 993TT with very good results. A/C seems unaffected in hot Atlanta conditions and the oil temps peak out at the first line or slightly under it when operating in slow traffic. Higher speeds it is consistently below the first mark. On the track on a hot day the temp got just slightly above the 9:00 mark.

For those who care I should have my car back this weekend after the fabrication and install of twin front coolers at Jay Putnam Engineering. Early tests look really good. If all goes well he will offer all the components in an all inclusive kit.

Mike,

Will the kit include instructions so that oldguy can install it for me?

Steve, I am sure it will be very straight foward, but it might be a good idea to get some beer and head for OG's house and have a group install!

MikeW,

Did you get a chance to try out the new oil cooler? I haven't see a follow on post since this thread? Do you have any pics? I am itching to get the Ruf oil cooler if there's nothing better out there.

Cheers,

Mike H., The twin front oil coolers are in and work great. Even in traffic on florida's hottest days my guage never goes above 8 o'clock. Replaced the plastic front grills with almn mesh. Looks great. Pictures to follow -
