Your turbine side sealing ring has not seated. You cannot just rebuild K16's or K24's and expect them to work out of the box. Installing a overhaul kit will not address issues that exist. If things aren't corrected you will do the install over and over with failed results..
The shaft is going blue do to hot shutdowns or not enough time spent at idle to cool the turbine assy down.. If you have oil starvation and high temperatures you will have bearing transfer.. Brass will transfer to the shaft.. Email me or PM me if you have other questions.

If the shop doing my service uses the Porsche service kit that includes filters etc, will that contain Porsche filters or can these service kits also contain Mahle filters?

You can't assume anything. You have to ask and check them yourself..

Go ahead and use them for your GT2.. It is a cartridge filter on your car.

Kevin,
Very painful, important info for 993 turbo owners. I personally have sufferered through this thinking I had mis-handled my car. The symptoms you describe are perfect to the 'T'. Only thing I can say to anyone else is be aware of the symptoms and get your car off the road ASAP. The wrong filter actually happened twice from the same OEM dealer.... they have been around for many years as well. When it happened the secong time, I knew something wasn't right. Found your site after the other OEM dealer told me filter was wrong again. First time was not so lucky. stupid |

I'm throwing this "thread" for the chronic leakers/smokers...
I have been the cause of "poor installation" of new Porsche filters.. Usually the 2nd one cures the problem. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...d.php?t=289060

I'm pretty new to this forum. Thanks for all the advice.
Just wanted to add, the main dealer here in Germany advised me to change my Turbos. I had them inspected at work and found the colour of the compressor wheel to be fine, with no residual oil left. However on both sides I found the bearing housing cracked. This left me very dissappointed because my car has only covered under 50,000 miles. Instead of ordering the rebuild kit I've ordered two new K16s. Because I work with 3K/B/W I was able to get the Turbos quite cheaply (1300 euros each!). I'll probably get the original Turbos rebuilt and sell them on....[I can't believe that K24s are alot cheaper than K16s and that 996 K16s are again cheaper than 993 K16s!- weird German logic I suppose!] It's a shame because I just replaced one of the wastegate actuator membrane boxes (The old one got rusty) last month and then realised I got two new ones with the new Turbos. The Wastegate actuator boxes cost about 700 euros each! |

Hey Kevin.
What of this might be useful for the 964t crowd. I am going to be installing a Hyflow soon as well as an oil change. Might as well get it right if the check valve, etc would help. I do get the smoke clout at start up after long periods of inactivity. RT |

KKK, maker of the 993tt's turbos, is owned by BW.
