Rode in a new 997 GT2 at Buttonwillow . . . .
Well I decided to post this here in the 993TT board since I am familiar with it and I know there are many track day junkies in here . . .
A couple of my customers and their buddies get together once a year and rent out Buttonwillow Raceway, and get a fun track day where they can lap all they want without the hassles and traffic of a regular track day. They invited some of us from the shop to come out and have fun. It was a great day all around, tons of track time, but the highlight was one guy had a brand new black GT2, apparently one of only two in the States right now. I got to take a few hot laps with him, and he was good, he used to drive in Indy Lights and drove a 962 at Rennsport Reunion last fall (needless to say, traction control and PASM were off!) All I can say is that it is a truly amazing car out of the box, the acceleration and grip and handling were phenomenal, but I must say the most impressive aspect was the braking. Those PCCBs are incredible, the phrase "hand of God" stopping power comes to mind. It was made all the better by the fact that the guy could truly drive it: some casual hand timing revealed he was running consistent 1:59s on the #13 clockwise route at Buttonwillow. That is truly fast!
Anyway it was a great day, nonstop lapping, great people, and my 951 truly feels slow now! I posted a couple crappy iPhone pics of the GT2 to look at. Buy a GT2 if you can afford it, I see why Walter Rohrl loves it so much!

Jean, I forgot to ask, how stiff is the clutch, would it become a chore if used as a DD ?

At least you guys in mainland Europe can buy one (there are about 30 for sale at list on Mobile.de) ! Good old Porsche GB is restricting supply so purchase is impossible unless you jumped through all their hoops.....

The clutch is not too stiff, you can drive it daily from my perpective (and I have a bad left knee...)

I prefer to wait one further year in order to get one of the few upgraded stage II versions (probably 550 hp, delivery in Sep 2009).
I would very much appreciate any precise information, if you can, because I am dealing on one of the last MY 2008.
Thanks,
pmf

TB, I agree with the statement below.
It is slightly stiffer than my stock 993TT, which is about the same as a Toyota Camry, it has a more direct feel, meaning it is easier to modulate IMO.

Hi Turbo993, do you have official news of a MkII, please? I did a very long and accurate search and I have been confirmed that the GT2 will NOT be produced for MY 2009. When you say Sep 2009 are you talking about a MY 2010?

I can assure you that MY 09 will be built, because I had a definite option for a GT2 produced this October. And according to Porsche Germany, there will be a MKII with 550 hp, presumably MY10. But that series will be manufactured in very small numbers. I personally believe in that, otherwise I wouldn't have cancelled my option for October.
However, I don't know how the supply for the US will be.
Best,
