It seems like every car out there that is under $60k is garbage according to some r-listers. "wouldn't touch it" seems to be the key phrase.
Is this because these cars are all really so bad, or are R-listers just so picky. I can't believe that 993 TT owners, however ignorant they may be about the cars, would treat them so poorly. All I'm looking for is a black, blue, silver, or arena red car with a black or tan interior with less than 70k miles for less than $60k. It doesn't seem possible, or am I just discouraged? Thanks |

It certainly seems like you should be able to find a car that meets your criteria.
You are right. Many on this site are rather picky so what can you say. Keep the faith and you will find something to suit you!

Quadcammer, what was wrong with the black TT that was listed on ebay that had a BIN price of $58.8k a month or two ago?

I got mine in August with 62k miles for low $50s. Super clean. Took me a while to find it though...

I know the 993 is the bomb. It is the best example of the Air cooled 911. The height of Porsches expression of a supercar. HOWEVER, Given your budget, I think you should include the 996 TT in your equation. There are MORE, they are just as fast, and they are cheaper and have less miles. I believe that
it is the bargain of the new millennium. You will probably find a much better example of what you want. In fact I bet you could find a Cherry garage queen for you money, say in the 30K mile range. They arent that different. Porsche uses basically the same motor with water cooled heads. Its just one more step in the evolutionary development of that GT1 motor as is the 993 motor. $70k seems to be the magic number for finding a 993 TT thats not garbage or some weird color combo. That was the number when I bought one and it seems to be the number now. Under $60k and the small numbers of 993 TTs (96 and 97) that were brought here, you're really going to have to do some leg work to find what you want in the 993. Its not impossible but you REALLY increase the availability by including the 996TT in your search.

^ It's all in the headlights, which really is pretty silly.
If there was a cheap way to convert them to round lights, 996tts would be selling like hot cakes.![]() a lil comparo...not turbos but close... http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...v-996-c4s.html |

Either way, its just discouraging to hear that pretty much every car I've been considering is crappy. Quote:

The 996TT is arguably a better car. Quicker, better stock handling, more comfortable...etc, but after having looked at them closely, I just don't want one enough. The 993 screams Porsche to me. The 5 gauges, the clink of the door, the snug cabin, the 60s dash and door panels. To me, thats what a Porsche is. Since I have a daily driver, I welcome the additional rawness of the 993 and knowing that I compromised on a 996TT would always be in the back of my mind. Plus the 996 interior is just plain cheesy looking. The only other thing I could see happening is if I sold both my current sports car and my daily driver, and picked up an 07 997 Turbo. Thanks for the input gents. |

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb If you contact the owner and chat about the car and you like what you hear I can take a look. I know an excellent shop that can do the PPI. PM me after you chat with the owner

Picked up this '97TT thru Truspeed last month. 35k miles, Artic Silver on Rubicon Grey sport seats. 2 owner Az/SoCal car. 8 hour PPI by Tony Callas. Tony described the car as exceptional. Frt bumper cover respray (big rock)pics provided by PO. All books/ records. Needed tires, clutch accumulator. Paid $55k.
Truspeed Sales person was Dick Sheer (good guy). They get a lot of cars that never make it to their website. They had my car for less than 7 days. Had a '96 993 TT Polar silver on black sport seats that lasted a day. They do a great job filtering the crap. Tony Callas' PPI was exceptional. He dives in to the cheap/easy disqualifiers first; accident damage, paint work etc. The longer the PPI goes the more expensive it becomes, but the more in-depth and the higher the "grade" the car will receive (Test drive, paint meter, suspension, transmission, viscous coupling, SAI, compression, leakdown, turbos, on and on). Tony prefers if you stay and watch, I did and it was very impressive. Upgrades done: MPS PS2s N3 (Dave at Wheel Enhancent IMO the Porsche Tire/wheel experts). Bilstein PSS10s, ride height set between ROW and RS, alignment including kinematic toe. Changed all filters and fluids + plugs. Drove the car up to Laguna Seca. Very comfortable ride w/ the PSS10s set to comfort w/ the PS2s. My most favorite Porsche yet. Brian 25 year Porsche driver (911SC, 993C2, Cayenne S, 997S) |
