Hi Folks. Think I botched my first attempt at a post so here goes again. Just purchased a '96 993tt with 8,443 miles last week and seems like I should be using Techron. Anyone know where you can get it in Canada and what it's called if it goes by a different name? Thanks.

If you use a fuel system cleaner, like the Chevron (with Techron additive), the prudent thing to do is an oil change after running it through the system.
Why do you think you need to use a fuel system cleaner right now? |

Why do you need to do an oil change after putting that in the gas?

according to 993tt.com the cleaner will end up mixing with the oil so recommended to do prior to doing an oil change

I run a tank of fuel with Techron additive just before the yearly oil change, in preparation for winter storage. Some good reading here (the above advice is mentioned near the end): http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html |

Ron, welcome, glad to see you made it here. Look forward to seeing your car in the spring. I am planning on doing an oil change shortly before winter storage so if youfind the techron locally I may be interested.

^Barney, don't worry. You do not need to change the oil. Just do it differently in the future. It’s not like you are going to wake up tomorrow, and look in the garage, and your car turned purple of something crazy! Oooops!
I also do Blackstone oil analysis every year on the cars, and have NEVER seen any residual fuel results or Techron in my analysis. I just think this approach and recommendation from L&N Eng. is a prudent and conservative approach. I like it...and it works for me. |

Wow! Thanks for all of the advice and welcome folks. Yes it is the Seigel car. It runs perfectly as a basically new car should so I'm thinking preventative here. More searching indicated that Techron is available at Petro Canada as Tactrol. It is apparently available by the bottle and in their Super Clean gas. It has only a 91 octane and I was planning on running Sunoco Gold which is 94 octane and 5% ethanol. I also have a '74 260Z which only runs really well on the Sunoco Gold. What gas do you folks use?

The Sunoco 94 has 10% ethanol. Beware. There's lots of discussion about the negatives of ethenol on this forum. I run Shell to get away from the ethanol.
