It's funny how different parts of the country are too. I get absolutely ragged on for parking a red Porsche in my space. One of my peers says that parking next to me is like parking next to an NBA player with the different expensive cars I have around. (Granted a lot of them are because I'm good friends with a guy who runs the local P-car sales team lol)

Recognition without underlying appreciation is of little value to me. Ok, but what do I mean by that?
Because we drive these fantastic cars, we are more open to identifying the beauty that attracted us to them in the first place. How many times have you driven down the road and a car catches your eye. You notice the gleam of the paint or the sound of the exhaust. Then before you know it, they are right next to you and looking at your car as you look at theirs. Nods or smiles are exchanged and we go on our way.
Just like art or fine wine, our cars are things of appreciation that require a certain understanding. They are not utilitarian transportation, they are something much more. We know how much work and care goes into making them look and drive the way they do. They are a concrete of values earne and a recognition of what is good in life. When someone you respect and shares your values smiles and says "well done" when he looks at your car, that is the only form of recognition that truly matters to me.

I received two complements on the upper eastside of NYC over the long weekend. One was from an older guy from my building (drives a current Italian sports car among others) and the other was a kid that said nice car "dude" while at a light on 84th. Since I'm close to 40 something, I thought it was cool the kid called me dude... Maybe I'll skip the hair color and plastic surgery..hahah!
