Vandalized 993TT in Vegas
I'll post about my experience with Grundy Worldwide Collector Car Agreed Value insurance after reality gels in the next week or so.
My question now is this: The vandal that pounded a hammer onto the hood has stretched the metal. The shop says they can repair the existing hood, but not without using more filler than they would like.
This is a top drawer shop that does only Porsches. I can insist on a new hood but then it wouldn't be original and the option sticker wouldn't transfer. Since I may sell this one day to buy a RUF I wonder the best course. I have taken copious pictures showing the damage....basically a dented fender and hood. Thanks as always.......Chris

That is a hard one. The original hood is important and the option tag inside is just as important. Many years ago my wife had a 240Z that got vandalized. The body shop used too much filler and it caused the paint to spider web after a few years. The photos will be the key to selling it in the future. Good luck and keep us posted.

Swap hoods and keep the old one to show potential future owners.

Take the new hood. YOu can transfer the sticker (I did this before) if you are real carefull. The car has been repaired, there is NO avoiding it, so I would prefer a nice clean hood with zero filler as compared to one that has been beaten back with filler. NO question.

Mike

+ 1 new hood
I was in a similar spot. One night a few years ago my friends and I went back to one of my buddy's apt after hangin with some chicks at a bar.
As we were parking, one of the girls ( an amazon) decided it would be sexy to plant her amazon sized *** on my hood while I was still in the car.
Mortified, I jumped out and shooed her off. In the dark, I really couldn't see anything wrong. My friends rushed to assuage my anger by recalling all the girls seen on hoods of exotic cars in rock videos and pornos and that it should be fine lol.
However, in the harsh morning light, looking over the hood from behind the wheel, the ginormous butt imprinted was unmistakeable.
I drove around for a year like that trying to find a place that could repair it without filler, paint, or new sheet metal.
I was not having any luck and almost pulled the trigger on a new hood when I was introduced to a dent guy who, thanks to his love for 993's (he says he owns a 993 cab with less than 500 miles on it), painstakingly repaired the damage.
However, I am certain that a sledgehammer did much more damage than a tipsy girl's fat *** so I say new hood with good paint over bondo any day.
Plus when they catch the guy who did it you can use the original hood to beat him senseless with.

No sure if I agree with keeping the lid and showing it to a potential new owner.
Buyer: "Boy, the paint sure looks nice on this car ... is it original?"
Seller: "Well....the car has had some damage and was repainted, some idiot took a sledgehammer to the car, let me show you something"
Buyer (now a bit apprehensive) :"A SLEDGEHAMMER?"
Seller: "Well, look here, I save the hood. You can see here the damage was extensive....he really beat this up. However, if we flip over this large piece of metal, I saved the little option sheet that comes with the car"
Buyer (now backing away): "Woah! That is really dented! Crap, what did the rest of the car look like??? "
And if I was the buyer, I would walk away right there - because if the hood was this damaged, what other damage on the car was fixed that I could not see? It would be better if I did not see the damage at all.
I would take the decal off the hood, or even use a zip blade and cut the hood up so only the decal remains on a small panel of metal. I still think though that best course of action is to remove the decal totally and store it, or reglue it to the new hood.
A lot of potential buyers could not make the mental leap from seeing damage to a proper repair - so why open that door?
Cheers,
Mike

go carbon fiber!
you should also bring up diminished value due to the vanadalism. Others in the US have gotten paid on this and now in Canada some insurance companies are now paying this.
do transfer the stickers, top body shops will do this for you.
Does Bellagio care if you are publicizing this? I would think they would pay it out just to keep their name out of it.

The sticker is shown on illustration 801-00 but no part # listed.
Maybe have a good graphics guy print up a new one?

Really sorry to hear about this but ..... at least the damage was to the front end where original body parts can easily be replaced with the same. This would not concern me much if I were a seller or purchaser and I am VERY picky when it comes to these things. Good to know that you are ok. It could always be worse.
