Default bilstein PSS9s or PSS10s

Hello:

I recently bought a 993 TTS with the stock suspension, a/k/a the Paris Dakar look.

I was speaking to my mechanic this morning about going to a ROW suspension, and he said I should take the next step and get either PSS9's or 10's.

In reviewing threads, a lot of old(er) posts favored the 10's, although many seemed focused on "newer is better." As the 9s and 10's seem to have happily coexisted for a while I'm wondering if this reflex is justified (as well as the price jump).

I expect to be 98% road, with some modest track days once I'm sorted with the car. I don't plan on any other significant mods, and to be honest I don't see myself changing the settings once the car is dialed in.

Any thoughts appreciated.

As an aside, while I'm mindful of not starting new posts to answer old questions, if any commentators want to recommend any other wear related components I should change out while I'm having the suspension and alignment tinkered with I'd appreciate it.

My car has 9's and they were installed in 2006, 10k miles ago and I love them. I cannot remember if the 10's have one more level of soft or firm but I cannot imagine needing a softer setting.

I was under the impression that the 10's replaced the 9's in Bilsteins lineup.

FWIW, I just put 10's on my car and couldn't be happier with the results.

What is the actual price difference? In terms of performance they are going to be basically the same.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 9s do not have indicators/markings on the shock, so basically to figure out what adjustment # your at, you will need to count the # of turns. The 10s are easily marked for reference.

Also the 10s may have better feel in terms of notch adjustments. Meaning you can feel the actual "click" between settings, at least this is what I recall since I've had 9s and 10s.

You might even want to consider just getting a good set of springs/shocks (tons of threads on this, check 993 forum), since adj isn't really a priority for you.

Knight is correct. Basically same suspension other than ease of adjustment. 10's simplified so adjustment can be done quickly. If you can pick up the 9 for a substancially better price and don't mind a tad more work to adjust it, buy it. Most 9's will obviously be older and may be worn so verify condition, but you won't be disappointed.

Thanks guys. Went straight to a local suspension shop (as referred by my mechanic and cross checked on Rennlist - True-Line for the Northwest folks). Their view was that the bilstein's were only warranted if I was going to be adjusting them - otherwise going with upgraded (and lower) springs and shocks would get me to the same place for less money.

9's were stopped being made about 6 years ago, any stock is very old, the 10's have a more positive click adjustment

PSS10s + RS sway bars and drop links = great, great ride. They also have value to most knowledgeable buyers if you sell. Either way, the handling improvements relative to stock is substantial. The cost differential against value of the TTS is small.

My '97 TT came with PSS9's when I bought my car 5 years ago and they are great.
I always wondered.... what % of 993 TT's have the Bilstein upgrade and what dollar value it adds to the cars resale ?

$ wise I think it will be hard to put a number on it. Mileage and overall condition seem to play more of a factor. Take 2 exact same cars, similar condition etc. The one with Bilstein I can't see it being significantly worth more.
