Default clutch replacement

why when I type "clutch replacement" in hte seach bar does nothing come up? I'm replacing a RMS and with 113K on the C2 I should do clutch as well. Just want to know what parts I should order. All spirited street use, no track.

Also, what rear main seal to order and where do I find the correct seal installation tool? I apparently am not good at searches. thx in advance…

I believe that you can order a clutch kit from Pelican or Suncoast that will include everything you need. I went with the stock clutch / plate / release bearing. You'll need new bolts for the flywheel too - since you will remove it for the RMS.

For the RMS installation tool - try searching for that. There are a lot of threads and articles about a DIY solution because the tool itself is very expensive (like $400+ I believe). There was also a group buy thread recently because someone is going to have some made for about $70 each I believe.

I got one of Chris's RMS tools as well. Unfortunately, I had already put evrything back together prior to getting it So far my original RMS hasn't weeped/leaked so all's good. If I ever have to open it up again, it's worthwhile having the tool so I can change the seal out successfully!

I used the Sachs kit when I did mine and it works great. No issues. Smooth.

Also I would have the shop check the Min/Max Specs on the Flywheel. My Flywheel has 270k on it and its out of spec now, so its Garbage, its being Replaced. OEM Flywheel and Clutch Kit is Fine for Street Use, you can get from Suncoast or Pelican or ECS

The genuine Porsche clutch is made by Sachs.

The flywheels are dual mass and there is a test you can easily do to determine if yours is worn out. I replaced mine when I did my IMS, but to be honest it was probably fine.

One thing to keep an eye on is the clutch alignment. The cheap plastic tool I got from Pelican lead to hours of frustration and eventually having to drop the transmission down and out to remove the pressure plate and try again. I found I had to lift the end of the alignment tools slightly to counteract the flex caused by weight from the disc. Once you've tightened the pressure plate a bit and remove the alignment tool, visually inspect to see if the clutch is dead center.

Since you are pulling the trans, I would recommend replacing the trans mount especially with the mileage you have.

Send me a PM for an RMS tool.

Oh and there is an aftermarket clutch kit which is the same price as the stock SACH version but has a longer life due to more friction area. I wish I'd known before I bought my stock SACH.

Search on this forum and you should find it, unless someone on here can recall what the brand is?

I just did mine. Here are my 2 cents.

Chris(MA)'s RMS install tool works great. Thanks, Chris!

I also replaced the pivot, arm, clutch input seal, guide tube and bolts "while I was in there".

The Sachs kit is great, it comes with a clutch centering tool, which isn't mentioned in any of the ads I saw.

Note that there was an upgraded arm and pivot at some point (2001-ish?). If you upgrade from an earlier car, you will need the upgraded (997) arm, a different (longer) pivot, a rubber bushing and a different spring clip.

I put in a new LUK dual mass flywheel. LUK is OEM. The new LUK flywheel comes with a pilot bearing bearing installed.

Use new bolts on both the flywheel and pressure plate.

If you are in a hurry, you can get a kit from Pelican. I shopped around and saved hundreds. Prices vary a TON, by literally hundreds of dollars on both the flywheel and clutch kit.

A short length of steel flat bar with two holes in it makes a great flywheel lock. I had one from my old VW days that worked great.

You mean pilot bearing. This is really good info! It would have saved me $20 had I known when I ordered mine last year.

Yes, you're right, I'll correct that above. Thanks!
