Default 2 days with my new 996

I have been having an absolute blast the last few days in this car.Picked it up for 19k with 74k miles.Nice mods.. software tune, headers, exhaust, air box. Before i picked it up I did Bilstein B6s and Eibach springs and short shifter. This is my 5th 911 and won't be my last!.I have also had 4 Boxsters and 3 Caymans. This is really the absolute best deal for any Porsche out there. These prices have nowhere to go but up.I had to sell my Boxster Spyder (987) this year because of a divorce.Turns out i actually could have kept it.But i am fine with that.I have a 4 year old boy and he really couldn't ride in it.He loves this car and thinks its brand new!..I have had a 3.2,993,997.1 S ,991.1 S..I will say this..the 996 feels more like the air-cooled cars than the later.the car is 2000..I really wanted a 997S but after lawyer fees, this is the best i could do. Not sure a 997 is worth twice the money.

Beautiful! Best of luck with her. And I agree about the value. I wish I had a place to put another one. I think they will be going up a lot in the not too distant future.

Nice car, congrats

Would be good to hear the differences between each series seeming you've owned most of them!

hey Dan..
they all get better and faster! thats the quick answer ..But a little soul gets filtered out each time they get newer..The 991S was by far the best performer. It was fast. But for me the biggest problem was it lacked feel.100mph felt like 50. So there was no drama..I don't track but do live in the country and I can tell you this.I went 130 in both the 997S and the 991S..i was nervous in the 997 and i could have sent text messages in the 991..VERY stable, but bigger and over all numb..The 3.2 was a blast. Not very fast but seemed like an old race car on the street.I loved the smell of gas and oil..Neat car..The 993 I had was ok..I actually preferred the 3.2 more..The 997S was really a great car.I wish i had kept that and the 3.2.
The 996 really feels somewhere in between the 993 and 997..Yes that's a silly thing to say because it actually is! My setup is pretty raw..But its also a good driver..great a/c..I like that 70mph actually feels like driving..
I drove a 718 cayman s recently..Fast and kinda boring..I want to drive..I want to feel the car..going fast is not all i care about.
So far i am very happy with this 996

Interesting. I've noticed that when I drive my cabriolet with the top down, every speed seems a lot faster. I can go fast and still stay legal. In the end, it's all about perception.

Couldn't agree more about what is desirable in a driver's car.
So many get hung up on performance figures, and to them that's all that matters. That's bar-room bragging material, and says nothing about how the car drives, how it feels, and how big a smile it puts on your face. Admiring what marvels the engineers have achieved while you are almost a passive observer is boring.

The 996 has all the elements that make for a brilliant driving machine.

Nice car! And what a way for your son to travel! He'll have stories to tell his friends.

Nice ride and glad to hear you are enjoying the first couple days together. May the honeymoon continue and may you drive many miles of smiles.

Congrats on your 996 Joey. Your comment above exactly mirrors my own impressions. My mk1 2wd/6-sp 996 coupe has the lightweight driving feel of the late 60's/early 70's 911's even more than my old '87 3.2 did and even more than my '74 911S did. Given the lightweight "vintage-ish feel" driving engagement, combined with modern creature comforts and performance -- other than interior quality (which I think is a legitimate gripe in some cases depending on options), I struggle to understand why 996's sell at a discount given how special they are to drive.

I agree. I've had mine listed for awhile and keep bumping up the price to what I believe is a fair market price. I'm not really motivated to sell it in the first place, and am not going to give it away. When people call or email with interest and they ask about moving on the price, it's pretty much a conversation stopper.
