I posted in Off Topic with no replies. Maybe my fellow 996'ers know............is anyone aware of any coupons or discounts for NT01's from Discount Tire Direct?
Thanks.

I got mine from there when they were running a promo for their credit card. There wasn't one for Thanksgiving this year as in years past.

I bought a set of NT01s for my e36 off of their eBay store last year and hey had $100 coupon on eBay, so I’d also check there.

I bought a set during their black Friday sale last year. They have a couple of rebates right now, but I think the only one applicable to the nittos is $50 when using their card. I bought a set of yokohamas a couple of days ago for a different vehicle.

FWIW I just learned that the load rating on the 315 NT-01's is too low for a 911 rear tire. Get the 305's.

Thanks for the input. I haven't seen any discounts either, but I wanted to make sure before I buy a set.

Not sure what you mean by this statement. Is it based on the size wheel the tires are mounted to?

I have not mounted the set of nittos I purchased on my 996.2 GT3 wheels yet. I purchased 315s for the rear, which are 11 inch wheels. After doing some additional research, most information I have read on the internet does not recommend going wider than 305 on an 11 inch wheel. I'm not sure whether I should mount them or not. I also just recently purchased a fender roller, which I need to do on my 99 prior to mounting.

Little off topic here...... but where do you guys get the tires installed if you bought it online? Do you bring it back to dealer to install? I'm in NE, will something like NTB or town fair capable of installing the tires without scratching the wheels?

In my experience its usually hit or miss and all depends on the tech you get. I have used large chains like Discount Tire and have had 3 bad experiences and 1 good. The good was with whom i assume was the store manager saw the wheels in question..he personally did everything and did a great job. I recently used Costco to mount new PS2's on my GT3 wheels and they did a great job. Ive also used a local tire place without issues. I recommend asking the local PCA folks whom they use, you can also ask the local shops. When i was still in NY, my goto shop did all my track wheels; never had any issues with them.

The nice thing about Discount is they have many locations and for the most part the claim process isn't very difficult.

I have run the 315s on my 996.2 GT3 with the 11 inch stock rear wheels without a problem for track use.

A race shop that sets up a lot of GT3's recently had my car and noticed that I had 315s NT-01s on the rear. They told me the load rating for the 315s is lower than 305's and not enough for the weight of a rear engine car like our 911s.

If you look on the Nitto website you will see the 315/30/18 is rated at 1653lbs while the 305/35/18 is rated at 1819lbs. I would assume that this would lead to more sidewall flex in the 315 and more possibly of sidewall failure when being used on a rear engine car.

Thanks for the info.. I think I will go ahead and mount the tires.. It seams that 1653 lbs per tire would be safe on my 99 C2.. I am not good enough to drive my car at ten tenths anyway.
