Nothing more expensive than a cheap 911...especially one with a nosiy lifter.

^^ At least on the water cooled ones... Air cooled Porsche's are famous for needing valve lash adjustments (non-hydraulic lifters)and all sorts of valve train work...

Sometimes I dream of putting a solid lifters under those cams, but the varicam-plus would freak out on me Setting lash would be crazy expensive and it would get a bit noisy on the top end.

Do the diagnostics. Don't rely on Internet truth by repeated assertion. If it is something like bore scoring, a look with a usb scope/camera will tell you, but don't jump to that conclusion despite the fact that bore scoring is the current paranoia. It is easily verified or ruled out with proper scoping from the sump.

* engine ticking
* engine "smokes while driving"
I suspect the seller took car to shop and pays a couple hundred bucks to diagnose and decided it was time to make it someone else's problem. Otherwise, they'd fix it and either keep it or sell for more than $9.5K.
Maybe it's a ticking ac compressor and it smokes because it needs a new AOS. But as I said earlier, it SOUNDS like classic bore scoring SYMPTOMS. I didn't say it definitely has bore scoring.

Much better of buying a $20,000 car that is in good order and may need a $20,000 repair down the road.... ;-) If you’re not familiar with Porsche’s between 1999 and 2008 read up on the potential engine issues and costs. That said there are lots of Porsche owners out there that have had good luck and the cars are lovely to drive. You can now find 2009 Boxsters in the low 20’s or lower that do not come with these engine problems....

Thank you. I shot these videos from the perspective that someone is not savvy with engines.

I completed the entire bore scoring series. My car, which i intend to never sell, is 5500 miles since IMS retrofit/RMS, clutch, oil change. Drives like a gem, no smoking, no ticking, minimal oil usage (2qt over 5500 miles inc 2 track days).
I ordered 2 oil analysis test kits from LN and have scheduled an oil change next week. I intend to stick to your recommended 5000 miles or 6 months schedule, monitor oil consumption, and monitor UOA changes. Prior to seeing the videos i read about not letting the car sit and warm up, but rather drive off, staying under 3k until warm. You put an explanation behind the suggestion which makes total sense. Glad I’ve been doing that since almost day one.
Please keep the rennvision videos coming, and dont let any of the negative stuff that permeates the internet get to you.
I hope my car lasts forever and we never have to do business, but if it doesn’t, we will.
