Car Not Starting, Starts After Sitting But Sounds Like A Duck
Hi All - just had a great weekend at the track, car ran great for three days, no issues at all. After my last session, the car sat as I packed up the SUV, and hooked up the trailer. When I went to start the car to load it, it would not start. Cranked great, just would not catch.
When I got home about 3 hours later, I tried to start it before I pushed it off the trailer and it started right up, but made almost a quacking noise for a second. When I shut it down, it made the same noise again. I started it and shut it down one more time, and it made the noise again.
A month ago, I was at another event, and the same thing happened. At the time I was also working on the AOS, and I thought one of the vacuum lines was loose, once I secured it better, it started right up. But now that the no start has happened again, I wonder if the AOS had nothing to do with it.
Thoughts?

I'm starting to get that starter screech that the guy above me posted. Only happens occasionally, so a new starter is on my list of things to do soon.

My go-to for any no-start issue is to first unplug the MAFS, then try to start it.
Based on what you described, I have had issues like you described when I had either a major vacuum leak or the idle air control valve was stuck.

Any chance of getting a video or audio recording of the noise?

Maybe it's trying to tell you it wants a Ducktail.

I've never had a duck in the frunk, but I have had a stuck cat in the back. She was sitting on the spare tire as we road to the store. She howled all the way there and I thought we were having some kind of weird engine trouble. Got out and look underneath and there she was looking all traumatized. haha

Next time it quacks open the fuel door and put your finger over the hole in the vent grommet to see if that stops it.
If so it is either the purge valve at the throttle or the vent valve at the filler neck. My bet is purge valve.

Of course I tried to reproduce and it wouldn't. Would either of these two cause the non-start?

The purge valve sticking open would make hot starts hard. IE after refueling. Cold start not so much. Search the forum for purge valve or no hot start threads.
