Default Trickle charger via 12v socket?

Okay so this might be a dumb question, but my Google-fu is failing me.

I replaced my broken ashtray and cigarette lighter with the non smoker kit. The kit swaps out the cigarette lighter for a power socket, as seen in the link below.

https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU9X6SMPLUG.html

I've seen trickle chargers that use the cigarette lighter, but can the socket be used for this?

I bought a Battery Tender Jr and were using the hard wired connectors but those broke after just a few uses so now I have to use the alligator clips, which are kind of a pain. Being able to connect a plug into the socket would be fantastic.

I see they make this: http://products.batterytender.com/Ac...r-Adaptor.html

Anybody know?

I "should" work BUT the rate of chg will probably be lower than if you just hooked up a quick disconnect lead to your battery terminals and used that instead.

That's what I did but that doesn't mean a cigarette connector won't work, it'll probably just take longer to get to full chg but I don't know that for a fact because I've never used a cigarette plug to trickle charge any of my cars.

I use the Battery Tender adapter that you linked in a normal cigarette socket without any problem. Charging does not seem affected one bit. I used the battery terminal clips one year and it was a pain.

Since the charging current is low from a trickle charger (a couple of amps at best), the cigarette lighter socket is as good as connecting to the battery directly.

Once I discovered the lighter plug could be used to charge battery, I use it all the time now. Super quick and convenient. Ahsai is correct, the current is so low, it works perfect. In fact the Porsche battery charger uses a lighter plug. I don't suggest trying to boost from this though

...and there’s is a little notch in the bottom of the weatherstripping of the passenger side door for the wire.

Hmmm...I did NOT know this. Now I'm gonna have to run out to the garage and verify this on my 2002 C2 Cab...cuz I use the trickle charger frequently...that would be so much more convenient.

Ha! Me as well. I usually charge through the driver side though and crack the window to run the plug.

I know this is an old thread, but no need to crack the window. There's a cutout in the weatherstripping on the bottom of the driver's side door, about 8" from the rear.
