I buy my Mobil 1 0W-40 in five quart containers from Wal-Mart. Dump two of those in at oil change and good to go. At 144K miles, must be doing something right. Engine is strong and healthy. Did I mention I hate oil threads? Use whatever trips your trigger....

That's what I've been using (my first year of ownership) and am ready for my second oil change. I will send both oil samples in and take action from there.

Don't get afraid. Probably we will get to burn on the hell of the Jake's fanboys (been said that I dont know Jake and I respect him as I respect any other mechanic/engineer)... but yes, Mobil1 is also a good oil for these cars

I would recommend you to buy the "European Formula" though.

Well, I was a bit short. I do get the European Formula, change my oil twice a year, put a new M1-107 oil filter on my LN Spin On Oil Filter adapter, clean my LN magnetic drain plug, snug everything up and it is good. At 144K miles and twenty year old car, I have no complaints from the engine whatsoever. Have I done a lot of other maintenance items....sure. The point I'm trying to make is there is no magically unicorn oil for a Porsche. Yeah...formulated in the Black Forest outside Stuttgart by magical elves living in hollowed out trees. Only available from your local Porsche dealer for $$$$$$$$$. Point: Follow standard maintenance procedures, change your oil and filter frequently, and enjoy the drive.

Don’t put diesel class 8 truck oil in your car engine.... I know lots of people do it but that stuff is designed for big diesels that never see 3,000 rpm. Come on man...... You gonna put diesel in the fuel tank and add a DEF tank next?

Ironclad - they've never been mistaken about or disseminated incorrect information regarding the M96 in the past.

The same thing that Raby has used for years before he helped to create the DT-40, Motul 8100 Xcess 5w-40 is some of the very best oil you can buy for a 5w-40 application. It s a true 100% synthetic instead of the "full" synthetic game that other manufacturers play

And far cheaper than DT-40 if you order it via Amazon in a 4 - 5 liter jug case.

No. DEF is exhaust fluid. I add it to the cats during oil change. Saving the last half quart for the mufflers.

Other than the label, curious why this is diesel oil?

I know DEF is fluid thats why I asked if you are going to add a DEF tank next. Read the label and literature on Rotella. It was designed for class 8 trucks. People started sticking it in their cars, usually the same types that swear by Slick 50 and Lucas additives too.

Hahahaha gold!

The dealership will be draining my 6 month Mobil1 0W40 change I did for their 5W50 classic in October.

I wonder who makes it, Mobil make a commercially available 5W50 as well - it's more expensive than their 0W40 (for me down under YRMV).

I had heard oil thread trolls lived under Mobil 1 Bridge, right after Oil Filter Bypass at the 5-50/0-40 junction. Now it’s confirmed. By my Porsche dealer Service Manager. When I had my Cayenne in for 2 recall repairs. Where they also sell...oil additives! Expensive oil additives! Thankfully, Porsche isn’t in it for the $billions$; they’re in it for the purity of our ‘driving experience’.
