Wouldn't you just turn it around?

Only if you buy their matching tilted jack and tilted motor lift table......

Check out this video. It relies on supporting the center of gravity point to balance. For a 996, that balance point will be like 1in in front of the rear wheel well leading edge. i.e., not a location you can jack.

I sent an e-mail to maxjax asking if the Tilt can lift a 911, specifically a 996. It may not need to lift at the balance point, just it would be harder to tilt maybe use a floor jack. What I don't understand is how the flat jack pad doesn't crush the seam that protrudes downwards along the sides of our 996, one video I watched a dense foam pad was placed on the flat surface I guess as a cushion.

They wouldn't be selling this if it didn't work for most cars, and like any lift except a monster two-post I wouldn't get under it without four stout jackstands providing primary support.

Bill....Bill....Bill....

That should have been scary! Those ratcheting jack stands are dangerous. Last time I had my 914 in the air like that I had two jack stands (I have 4 Escos) on each side AND a floor jack on each side just in case AND put the tires under there as well.

Yes...I'm a chicken ****

The cost of a decent lift is less than my annual insurance deductible. Smart money says buy a good lift and don't risk your life and limb.

I too am a scaredy cat and am extra cautious with jacks and stands (because I value my life). I only use ratchet jack stands if they have safety pins.

I also just bought some 2 ton aluminum stands from OTC. They use pins instead of ratchets, similar to Esco’s, and don’t have a pad that’s merely welded on to support the weight of the car. I sprayed their jack saddles with PlastiDip in order to give them some non-skid effect and prevent any movement. The best part is that they are some of the shortest stands I’ve found: only 9.5” when fully lowered.

@808Bill

Any chance you could do me a favor and measure the height of the block plus the height of your specific jack stands? I'm trying to figure out how high you need to jack to get the engine out.

FYI, I just got an email from Pelican saying they are giving $100 off QuickJack but they are quite a bit more expensive than Costco.

I got mine a year ago from Costco and love it.

For me there are a couple of things that set it apart from all the others:
* it only requires 110V
* it does not have to be installed and bolted to floor
* price--I think I paid about $1K

On another thread a poster said he lifted his 996 25 1/2" get out engine. Another poster said 26" from bottom of sump to top of manifold; he raised his 996 22" and then picked up another 10" by removing bumper and a metal piece. So lifting 22-26 inches should get it out.

Bottom of 996 when lifted with QuickJack is about 19"?

We were looking at MaxJax Tilt and got this reply from the manufacturer: "I don't think the maxjax tilt will work for your vehicle. You will not be able to reach the actual lifting points."

So we seem to be looking at Liftbars for around $1k that can get 996 up to 25 1/2", or a thousand pound (!) scissor lift for around $2k that can get up to 48".
