I was checking my Instagram Account and found this picture of a 996 at Pikes Peak today:

There was also a video of it taking off:

My father ran Pikes Peak before they ruined it, with pavement. He took second in the SCCA Pro Rally class, behind some punk named John Buffum.

Fred Veitch

Apparently it’s not his first time either!

There were 3 996s out of a field of 40, 2 Turbos and a GT3. Mobil was also giving away T-shirts and posters featuring Zwart’s 996tt from a few years back. Pretty solid representation today!

And yet a local guy beats the factory team. Should not be a surprise to any 996 owner.
im trying to decide who has more explaining to do: The porsche pikes peak team or Ferrari F1 team after disastrous results at Spa this weekend.

I drove that in a rental car with family. Anyone who races up that mountain has got to be totally nuts. I would love to hang out with them.

That picture is unbelievable. It's bad enough the car can slide of the cliff but with the spectators on the edge, totally adds excitement to it.

Thanks for sharing.

Those guys are there to show the emergency team where the car went over the edge because half of the guys would be missing. It was different times...

I was lucky enough to drive it both before and after paving.

I found another angle of the Fred Veitch car. It's a Turbo!

Crazy MFr's indeed! I love the "one hand driving while the off hand provides the necessary sun blocking to be able to see out the windshield" move. I almost soiled my shorts several times during that vid, but looks like so much fun!
