interior updates for my 996

My Turbo has a Savanna interior and I had the same complaint. It was all Savanna. I swapped out the carpet for black and it made a huge difference. If you keep you eyes peeled in the marketplace and on Ebay, you can get everything you need for well under $1000. I stumbled onto a few really good deals and I think it only ended up costing around $500 to do mine.

My interior is also all savanna beige and after seeing this I’m seriously considering changing the carpet. What a difference!!!

Not shown in the pictures is black carpet on the lower part of the door panels and I also refinished my center console. Finding beige door cards with black carpet is nearly impossible, but this carpet I found on Amazon is an exceptionally close match to the color and texture of the factory black carpet:
Here is said carpet on my sub enclosure. The contrast with the factory carpet is a combo of sun fading and the camera doing weird things. In person it's practically indistinguishable from the factory carpet.

It’s amazing how much a nice shift **** and wheel can change a ride. When I had my 986S, I just never loved the ****. Typical shift **** in 2000. Seen it in 996 base and turbo’s. Felt plastic and nothing special visually. I bought one off eBay and just loved the difference. The feel had texture and the leather of the boot was much nicer. I think I paid like 150 for it. The new to me 996 came with a crested shift **** that had much better feel.
Regarding the steering wheel, my son just put a MOMO on his Miata. I took for a ride yesterday and just thought it was the cat’s meow. The texture of the leather had much nicer grip and something about the smaller wheel. My friend just got the leather on a Mercedes Benz steering wheel done, it had the same MOMO texture. Maybe another option. These cars are best when personalized in my opinion. Not the best idea financially but a Porsche never is. Good luck.

Digging that black and savannah combo. Now I am thinking that is something I need to do myself. I would imagine in a cab it wouldn't be that bad of a job since its so open to work on the interior. Only thing I would worry about would if something came up and I needed to sell it would this be a turn off for people?

My Seal grey 2001 C2 also has the sea of grey graphite interior. I made a couple changes that were easy and make a difference.
1. Seat inserts in pepita/houndstooth (PO did it, and I really like them).
2. Double DIN stereo (doesn't really change the ratio of grey:black, but modernizes the interior far more than expected.
3. Leather diamond footwell covers front/back in black with silver stitching. They cover pretty much 100% of the graphite carpet.
The last certainly isn't for everyone, but my plan was to strip out the carpeting and create a HPDE/AX competitor. The idea was to pop these footwell covers in for street driving and out for track. Realized that turning the C2 into a dual street/track car wasn't efficient, so bought a 6GT3. But I like the interior in the C2 for daily driving. YMMV.

It made a HUGE difference. Aside from less beige, the Savanna carpet just doesn't age well in these cars and fades quite a bit which makes the interior look dated.

I need to do that. How did you install the carpet on the lower part of the door cards?
Or did you? I may be misreading this.

I pulled the center console out and sprayed black with Plastidip. Also sprayed the ignition bezel. Works well on any of your plastic pieces, will cover those claw marks on the horseshoe. With the black floor mats I was able to get rid of enough grey for me.

I bought some dark blue floor mats from the dealer to cover the gray. They are darker than they appear in the photos but they are mismatched and the stitching is also mismatched. not sure I want to keep them because it will bug me.

if you magnify the image you can see the differences in the stitching. buying from the dealer thought I would not have problems, but definitely not a properly matched pair.
