Default 285/35/18 on my C2?

"00 C2 Cab, no PSM. I've got 18" Carrera rims, 8" front and 10" rear with 285/30/18 on the rear. If I can go to 285/35 on the rear I'll have more options to choose from. These are ~26" diameter vs ~25" current. Anyone run this size tire and how is the clearance? Would it be ok to keep the fronts at 225/40 (~25" diameter)? Front to back difference would be 4%.

285/35 worked great for me lowered on coilovers with spacers. Front to back on 2WD not a concern.

We put on larger tires than stock at 235/40/18 front and 295/30/18 rear. Rear is slightly shorter than front and it doesn't look right, when they wear out we are planning on same size front and taller 285/35/18 rear. We also have a C2 with none of that electronic junk and will experiment to see if we can use spacers by temporarily placing different thickness washers behind wheels to check for rubbing issues.

I know you've changed a lot of things since this photo was taken (BBS wheels, Cup wing & engine lid to name a few) but I still think your car looks great in this photo!

Thanks Bill ! Me too - if I bought another one to leave stockish and drive around, it would look exactly the way it does there but with a ducktail... and that’s it. They really are pretty cars, especially from the back.

I’ve been running 235/40R18 front & 285/35R18 rear, for the last 35,000 or so miles. I have the M030 spec springs and no real rub (if I hit a bump, at full-lock, the front tire might kiss the fender liner lightly).
Works great, and opens up much more variety of choices.

thanks and nice ride. I sub'd your youtube. Going to 285/35 on the back offers many more options. Mich PS All Season 4's for example, standard on the base Corvette should be good enough for my "spirited" street only driving.

Yeah, I'd like to keep the fronts stock size.

Costco has the best deals but Discount Tire will happily mount a tire to see how it looks and if it rubs, etc, then take it off to try another one.

35k miles is a pretty good trial . That's what I'm looking for. Interesting, I've got a 20 year old book "Porsche 911 Buyers Guide" that shows the '99 and '00 came with 17's and a note: "Porsche advisory against using 18's as it could cause chassis failure".

Our stock size was 225/40/18, and we want largest tires possible went up to 235/40/18 with very slight rub inside wheel well only at full lock. Someday will heat up and reshape wheel well liner to eliminate all rub, but not really an issue.

These General G-Max were highly rated at Tirerack.com for grip and noise, available in many sizes, and have about twice the wear rating of Porsche approved tires. We have 13k miles on them and they are hardly worn.

Thanks for the sub ! up to 342...which I have to say is more than I thought I would get when I started putting videos up ! really appreciate it.

IMO the 285/35 is the "right" tire for there back. The taller sidewall is a better choice with all that weight back there and it looks the business. You can stick with stock sizing in the front and will have a nice setup. I ran the PS4S and really liked them - both on the track and the street.

I actually just sold the whole setup pictured above - spacers and all to another forum member, hopefully he will enjoy as much as I did and post plenty of pics

I just installed 235/40/18 and 285/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on my 996.1 last week and haven't had any issues with rubbing. Currently on stock suspension so there's a good amount of gap, coilovers are going on soon but from what I'm reading I don't think 285's are going to cause an issue.

That's exactly the rear tire I'm looking at now, thanks for the pic. Costco has $150 off on Michelin this month so these are no.1 on my list.

Despite all the positive feedback from others (most of them have changed front dimensions too, mind), going to 285/35 at the rear whilst keeping the front tyre size (diameter) the same you'd want to make sure you do not run into the Traction Control trying to speed up the rear wheels on decel, see here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...d-but-why.html

Not an issue if your c2 only has ABS (or with TC OFF).

I don't have first-hand experience with 285's but as written in the thread linked above I had this issue with 265/40 vs stock 265/35 combined with stock front dimension 225/40, all 18"

Thanks for this. Not a lot of 285/30 choices is the only reason for me going to "35" but stock 225/40 availability is not a problem so I did look into keeping fronts stock since I don't have PSM. Based on responses and other reading that there is no rubbing, etc with taller tires I may go to 225/45 front and this will make front and back diameter 26". Still, I kinda prefer the shorter sidewall on the front for the handling.
