I have the same issue on my 99. Only notice it in the winter (MN). Goes away shortly after the cars warms up. I don’t stress about it.

The knocking and ticking noise I am talking about is "internal", nothing you can do "on the outside" that will have any effect.

Follow my directions and "listen" to the cats using a Stethoscope.

My '99 will tick for just a few seconds on a cold engine, but goes away in about 10-15 seconds. Always thought it was a lifter.

Car has just under 62k miles. IMS replaced 20k miles ago. Otherwise drives very well.

I just changed oil to 0w40 (was 15w50), had water pump and serpentine belt replaced along with bank 1 side chain tensioner. Oil filter was clean.

any thoughts?
mine does the same. The owners for the last 5 years almost never drove the car. Anyway I drove the car 1,300 miles home and it was great. I put a couple of bottles of Techron to clean injectors. Anyway there is info about the car that I don’t know. In my opinion is fast as hell,
has a ton of upgrades and honesty I don’t know if it has a tune or original engine. I am a retired motor oil guy, I used to evaluate engine oil testing data and formulate motor oils. Anyway I will be doing some used oil analysis on my car, since I used to take care of 2 million dollar engines used
at mines all over the world I can really do this. Any of you guys use any kind of engine oil additive, cylinder coating stuff???

I thought all Porsche owners were OCD/**** about unusual noises,.... there goes that theory...

To an automotive troubleshooter, a "noise is a noise", the hard part is finding/duplicating noise and finding the root cause, usually the fix is simple.....
