Lets play Detective: 1999 996 C2 mt arctic silver metallic from Tennessee
Hello to you all!
I just bought my first Porsche. Yes it’s a 911 and yes it’s a 996. I’m from Kaunas, Lithuania, Europe. And the 996 I bought from insurance auction is from Tennessee. As it is now in a container somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic, I thought I’ll give it a shot and try to look for previous owners. The goal is to find out what kind of work was done on the car, if the IMS was addressed etc.
What I know about the car:
It was shipped to NYC from Germany in 1999
Sold to someone in Tennessee with 20miles on the clock in Nov, 2000
Sold to someone in Tennessee with 20000 miles in Nov, 2004
Sold to someone in Tennesse with ???? miles in Dec, 2016
Car was damaged in the front (i’m thinking while stationary, because airbags did not deploy) in Apr, 2021 with 31000 miles on the clock,
As I mentioned before car is arctic silver, black leather interior, Hi-Fi system as an optional extra and it has Porsche PCCM plus installed. Everything else seems original and very well maintained (except for the damaged front, obviously).
I attach a couple of pics (one picture is worth a thousand words). Maybe someone will point me into right direction
p.s. Yes I will fix it and yes it will drive perfectly

Quick update
Hey guys! After 4 months of hard labour (parts search, thorough engine check, bodywork, paint prep) the silver lady is straight as a missile and ready for paintshop. Total cost so far 4.5kEUR (5kUSD)
I’m glad it didn’t have any serious structural damage!

A VIN number will help, but there's not much more you can obtain from the specifics that are found on CarFax type reports. However, I've contacted CarFax to get information on the police department that handled an accident. You can contact the specific police department to see if they'll provide any more information on what happened in an accident. They may or may not. Even the dealership doesn't want to release specific private information. Many have tried and failed.
This looks like a nasty accident. I'm surprised the airbags didn't deploy, but it could have been a stationary accident (e.g. sitting at a red light and another vehicle hits the Porsche). Porsche uses a deceleration algorithm to trigger front airbags in the 996. Therefore, either the car was hit while parked or in a stationary traffic accident, IMHO. This is going to be expensive to repair and it looks like you have some serious structural damage to the body of the car.
Good luck!

I think your problem is not IMS, but car body., and how to restore it to street legal. I would say that haven’t been in ”littlle parking accident”, but way more serious. I wonder if there are something wrong with airbags, I think that theys should definetly blow situation like this. Hope that that you didin’t pay this too much.

Please keep us updated, this could turn into a great all time thread. Not gonna ask what you paid for it but I am curious what it cost to ship from TN to Kaunas, Lithuania, Europe? Best of Luck

Good excuse to get a good frame bench, clamp it down ... and get to work.Doesn’t look that bad to me ,windshield not being broken is a good sign.High hit is better less damage. If you are doing it yourself lots of labor involved.Enjoy the project please keep us informed.

It arrives in 3-4weeks, I will try to document the whole process and share it here.
TBH, it doesn’t seem that bad to me, as doors open and close perfectly, windscreen is in place and not damaged. We’ve revived cars which seen worse )
I will keep you guys updated.
p.s. with shipping and customs it will be 10kUSD, I’m aiming to fix it with 5kUSD. In europe it’s a 25-30kUSD car

Not in the US, perhaps.
OP, if you have the VIN, pop it into Google. I found an old listing from when my car was sold a year ago including tons of pictures and into. I also found the 993 build sticker thread where someone interested in buying the car did a bunch of research and posted it.

I assume you will get a title with the car and the previous owners name will be listed. Doesn't help today but...
