Which is better the 996 or 997
I’m starting this thread because a question was asked by someone on “pricing keeps drifting up”thread the question was is a higher mileage 997 a better value then a lower mileage 996 yes it is
here is my response progression of any built item needs to evolve in order to survive changing environments the 911 is a great example of evolution its superior progression is what keeps people focused on the original essence
it’s what made Porsche a great car company the silhouette of original 911 is clearly present today’s Porsche
from a truly happy but honest knowledged 996 911 owner

996 is definitely the better car because that's the one I have.

People have different definitions of 'better'. To me, things like TPMS, back up cameras, double DIN touch screen stereos, etc... are all just distractions from the pure driving experience. The early 996 is the last of the analogue cars and the last of the classic interiors which was a big part of why I chose it over the 997.
Again, I guess it would depend on your definition of value. Value is the last thing I think about when deciding on the purchase of a fun car. I never expect to break even or make money on a car if/when I sell it.
So I would say, if you like all the modern stuff and want a few extra horsepower, sell your 996 while the market is up and buy a 997. Now GET OFF OF MY LAWN!

Tough questions to answer because beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder.
All depends on what you are looking for and why. I have owned my 02 since 02, and just like all of us, can sell it and get another 911 model if we choose.
My "beauty" metrics revolve around driver enjoyment and handling. Have driven the 993, 996, 997, 991 on the track at speed, as well 964 on the street. Was contemplating buying each, but keep going back to my 996 as the best all around street and track car from a handling and driver enjoyment standpoint. Certainly not faster than the 997, 991 on the track, but more engaging to drive to me. Maybe or maybe not for others.
Others may find that their metrics may revolve around interior and electronic refinement, ease of driving (nannies), more HP and speed, etc. No worries.
Good news is that we have plenty of options.

I have been instructing and racing for some time and have owned lots of street cars at this point. My favorite are the 964 and 996 chassis cars. I do think that a 997.2 is a better NVH vs. performance trade off than the 996 but I do not find them as engaging and analogue to drive. They are better daily drivers though.
