1999 Oil Pump Seal - Engine Out?
Searched through several threads and couldn't find my answer. I have an opportunity to purchase a low mile 1999 manual coupe. The owner says it needs an oil pump seal and states this is an engine out procedure. Is that accurate? It appears that the pump is attached to the outside of the cases, but perhaps there's not enough room to remove and replace with the motor in the car? Other pictures I've seen show a pump inside the crank case, although I don't know how you would diagnose a leaking seal if that's the case. I have a lift and am not afraid to pull the motor, but I'm not excited to split cases. Thanks for any insight!

It can definitely be done with the engine in the car but you will need to support the engine and take off the the front mount frame.. The scavenger pumps can also be done with the engine in the car.. I have done both..

^^^This^^^ remove rear bumper, support engine (lift table) remove front engine mount (you’ll have to also remove the mounts in the corners as they’re attached to this piece) cat supports etc. the whole face of the engine including the oil pump housing is exposed. You may want to plan ahead and do the water pump/thermostat and pullies/idler, serpentine belt, etc. while you’re there...
