Default What should a good IMS bearing feel like when you turn the center stem!

I am in the middle of doing a LN Solution upgrade. I am about to extract the original bearing. When I turn the threaded shaft, the bearing feels a little rough and you can hear friction. It’s not loose when I move the shaft sided-to-side, or up and down. Does that mean it was on its way out? If I compare the IMS bearing to a standard sealed ball bearing, I would say it’s bad. Since I never spun an IMS bearing, good or bad I have no way to compare.

I performed the Solution pre-installation check list and everything was fine. What do you think?

Thanks!

A bearing is a bearing - whether it’s at the end of the intermediate shaft or not... If it feels bad (rough or gritty) then it is bad. The only question now is, how bad and whether it has shed ferrous particles through your engine...hope not good luck

No metal seen by the naked eye nor ferrous particles found on the magnetic drain plug. Oil filter is clean. I am thinking maybe stage 1?

^^^ Were the seals intact? Was the bearing filled with oil, or was there still grease inside (doubtful but there’s a first time for everything )... Maybe extremely early stage 1?

The seals are still there, no grease but definitely oil in the bearing.

Pull the seals and have a look inside.

I pulled one of the seals and oil came out, so definitely no grease. I wonder how long it would have lasted?

LOL. So true.
It's a lifetime component: it will last the lifetime of your engine.
Engine oil is similar; if not changed, it will last the lifetime of your engine.
