CA smog check & FSI motor
Thought it was worthwhile to mention I just had to do my CA smog check for this year's registration this weekend. I had FSI build me a 4.0L last November and I've put 6k miles on it since. The car passed with flying colors. Anyone in CA concerned that a larger engine from FSI may give them issues come smog check time, need not be worried.

Nice! Thanks for the report out. I'm on this path now with the 3.8L. If your 4.0L makes it, the stage1 is a cake walk. The process seems easier than it used to be. I think it is now simply an interrogation of the DME. I can't remember when any of my cars were put on the dyno with a tail pipe sniffer.

Does your engine have the UAOS or the OEM set-up ?

Your engine was probably done before the UAOS had proven itself.
FSI has installed 15 UAOS's this year on their engines..
UAOS will pass Emission "sniff test", and according to CARB Apendix G , the visual will not be a problem either as it need no "exemption code number" on the part.
