Question 996 Used key fob code reading and adapting??

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 2003 996 carrera. The previous owner had changed the immo/central locking module due to water intrusion. He had a locksmith adapt new immo pills to the module however the key fobs are another story. I am curious if anyone else has figured out a way to read remote fob ID numbers in order to write them into the module before I take the car to the dealer for new fobs??

Try ecudoctors in florida before going to the dealer. They may be able to help for a lot less then the dealer.

I already spoke with them. They cannot pair used keys. They can transfer data from one module to the other. That is not my problem unfortunatley, but thank you for trying to help.

You can buy new key heads w/ electronics online and take them to the dealer to pair with the ECU. I had to do this after both of the keys for my '99 gave up the ghost.

My dealer was cool and only charged me half an hour labor to program both keys. You can move the cut (metal) part of the key to the new fob yourself - it's pretty self-explanatory once you pop the fob halves apart.

Call the service writer at your dealership ahead of time and see if he'll cut you a deal.

One cannot program pair used keys without the RFID pill code in the keys. If you don't have that, forget about it, it can't be done. Porsche security. And, you only get 5 chances to program the key security codes in the immobilizer, otherwise you have to buy new keys with the codes and a new immobilizer. $$$$$ Only a Porsche dealer can do this.

This. I had to call around to a 3 different dealers to find one that would program a key bought online (ie. not from them) but it was worth the effort and saved a ton of money over buying the whole shebang from the dealership. I would find a dealer willing to do it before buying the fob so you don't get stuck with one you can't get programmed.

There is a user (smuko) claiming they can recover the code from fobs, however I've not come across a thread where someone went through with it and reported back success. Search "smuko@brizzard.net site:rennlist.com" in google to find the other threads.

RFID pill and remote are 2 separate functions. I already have the RFID portion paired to the car. It starts and runs, remote fob is a separate portion of the key. I don't have a problem getting it done by a local locksmith however remote fob ID is needed in order to pair each remote to the car. From what I know only new remote fobs come with tags with the code from the dealer, I am wondering if anyone else found of a way to read the remote fobs to retrieve this ID. Thank you for your reply.

I had it done at the ECU doctor.
i remember contacting Sumko, but i cant remember why i didn't go thru with him. i believe he is located in Europe, and the ECU doctor is 5 minutes drive from my office.
you will still need to get the IPAS codes from the dealership, to get it done.

Did you have your original module?? I believe if you have original module the fob ID can be pulled from the module. However this is not the case as I don't have the original. I guess It wont hurt to reach out to ecu doctor again and see what they say.

If you had original module and keys. Its easy to do. Without original module to pull data from it's not easy. I found one place in Cali that can do it. But they are asking just as much as a new key costs so to me that's no different than buying new keys and paring them to the module. Not really worth the down time in my opinion.

Sidenote. I spoke with a friend of mine whos had a 996 for sometime. He recently got screwed by this user. Apparently he was very rude and not easy to deal with from the very beginning, then he sent 3 remotes at 100euro each. First package was lost since Dec 18,2021 USPS would not do anything as my friend was not the sender so smuko would have follow up on this end for them to investigate and find out what happened. Which he refused to do. Then he finally agreed to send another 3 remotes which arrived by miracle but again he was very rude when my friend reach out why he didn't have the remotes prior to them arriving and USPS draging their feet changing delivery date 3 times, but also not scanning the package to update the receiver if the package was on the move. None the less the guy lashed out at him when he said he didn't have the package and if he could check on his end. My friend is out 300euro, and this ******* cause that's the appropriate name for him at this point just ghosted him. Also he doesn't provide you with a code he send you a dump file for eeprom. None the less BUYER BEWARE do not deal with smuko. Guy will leave you with some used remotes and no way to program them. Many will say this is hard to believe, however I have seen all the emails and back and forth from whatsapp messenger. All I can say is avoid at all costs. My friend learned a good lesson. I am currently getting him sorted out with his remote situation.

For anyone interested, my friend sent me a copy of all the emails and all the exchanges between him and smuko. Looks like this guy is just out to scam people out of money.

I'm in this exact situation with my '99 996 c4 cab. May I know how you managed to resolve the used remote ID situation?
