Engine died on 2001 996 Cab. What now?

If you're already in there, I'd recommend going out to 3.8. My 2001 had an IMS go so I decided I wanted to save the car. Was very happy with my decision to go to 3.8, but then you have to keep it...

Ughh. Still waiting. About $12k so far. He had a friend’s Fiat for over a year with a rebuild. He had been very quick in the past. Guessing he has taken on more than he can chew at the moment. Had a good German car mechanic closer to home, but he got so busy it was ridiculous. Same fate might have to my Italian guy. Not sure what to do in the mean time. Picked up a 2015 Lincoln MKS ecoboost to drive around for now. Lots more room but nowhere near as fun to drive :-(

New update. Mechanic sent pics of disassembled engine. IMS did fail. Was a LNE ceramic. Also looks like one of the timing chain guides broke. Lots of carbon build up on the pistons/combustion chamber. Will be a while before it is back on the road by the looks of things.

Looks like he may not have loosened (all of) the chain tensioners… 😏

Ugly pictures. Makes me curious about the LNE ceramic bearing. It doesn't appear as though they offer it anymore.
EDIT: I take that back. Apparently all of their bearing-type retrofits use hybrid ceramic ball bearings.

LN retro is not a permanent solution. Needs to be replaced around 7 years and or specific mileage. Has worked well for me since I will have the engine dropped from time to time to have my indy go over it. Easy enough to replace the Retro at that time as well as rms, clutch and flywheel if needed. Most would be better served with the Solution.

Dude that sucks. I’m also curious to see what will be said by LN.
