Ignition Switch Replacement - Done...but
...but I am getting old, and it felt a lot more difficult than when I did it 11 years ago....playing contortionist under the dash with a 6'2" frame at 55 years old is not something I want to do ever again........took me 2 days to recover.....

58, but only being 5'7" made all the difference Done it on our 996 and Boxster S...yeah, no, not my favorite job at all. I get claustrophobic in footwells.

Only children allowed down there. I hate! Replacing the passenger side filter in my BMW x1. I’ll breath dirty air to avoid replacing it lol

Good on you - count your blessings that you can do stuff like that. I’m same age, 6 ft 4, and did the ignition switch replacement last year. At first tried to without removing the AC vent in the dash, pretty much impossible with my huge hands. Access to the set screws was way easier with the vent assembly out of the way.
But I still get nightmares of the time I spent almost stuck under the pedals trying to back out those tiny screws….

One thing I learned many years ago working at a stereo installation shop. Remove the front seat. It's only 4 bolts and it makes working in the car so much easier.

On a related note: I've seen videos where one can remove the front section of the key lock mechanism by inserting a paperclip or other thin/stiff wire into the tiny hole located almost alongside the key hole? The videos I've seen require that the key is inserted and turned to the accessory position before inserting the wire. The front half of the lock mechanism is supposed to then pop out and can be lubricated.
I've tried this to no avail...
