Default Snapped tab on wind deflector, any smart ideas on how to fix?

One of the locking plastic side tabs that hold the wind deflector in place snapped off. I'm trying to find if it's possible to replace or repair. I have found some repair kits for the 997 deflector but the drawing doesn't look like the 996 part.

other option is to try and fix it with maybe a small rod drilled into the main plastic piece and then somehow glued together.

any ideas?

I like the idea of carefully drilling through the center of the broken piece into the piece that's still attached, then using plastic epoxy and a screw to fix the broken piece back in place. Watch that the screw head doesn't scratch stuff when you put it back into use. If there's enough material maybe a countersink would help there.

There used to be a rebuild kit for the 996 wind deflector latches. Not sure if it's still available.

BROWNELLS (Gun parts company) has stock repair screws which are threaded screws made of half hard brass. You can glue the broken pieces together then drill a small hole in the part, screw in the stock repair screw and then cut off any that is left outside the part. The thread is designed for max holding power. It should give you a good repair. I am using this on two of the frame joints on the wind deflector for my cab.

Yes these are what I was thinking, just need a really solid rod. The stock pin looks like a good solution with all those threads. Is this the part?

Yes, I found one site but coulnd't find it again. Though I finally did again:

https://www.parts-wise.com/997561955...left./p196531/

It lists the part as 99756195500, but searching that returns all sorts of things, including the 997 repair kit which has a pic that doesn't match the 996 deflector. Plus sites that list that part as the glove box handle.

I might try the drill/pin method first as not much too lose.

Thanks for the suggestions.

3m does make some rediculous bonding agents for plastic. Any auto body suppy or paint shop will carry them.

I've had luck with JBWeld on plastic. I've also used expoxies specifically made for plastics.

Side issue, the top tab that holds my driver side mirror controls cover (that whole part in the window corner) snapped off and I had to remove it entirely. Would JBWeld be a good option to try and connect another tab in place? I've been struggling how to fix that too - becuase I'd rather keep the matching piece.

Epoxy generally needs a fair bit of space to be effective. I'm not sure if it would hold a tab in place that's meant to flex during installation and removal. I think I'd just get a new part in that instance. But hey, try it and let us know.
