Default key fob stopped working

My key fob stopped working and the red light is on. it’s the single button key fob. Does it just need a new battery?

You can try a new battery, but the main cause for not working seems to be that the circuit board solder joints have failed.

My experience is that I couldn’t repair so I bought a new fob, a new blade and took to dealer where they cut the key and programmed the the car to the new key. Around $260.00 . I now have a backup key and one that locks the car remotely.

Where did you buy the fob and blade from? Was the $260 all in?

Talk to your dealer before ordering a blank key blade. The two dealers in my area both informed me they had to special order a cut key blade from the factory as they did not have the equipment to cut keys in-house. Price was still about what jumpy chunky quoted. Don't end up with a useless blank blade on your desk like me! OR, it just occurred to me that if your dealer can cut it I've got a blank blade I'll let go for my cost, free shipping

Had the same issue a couple of years ago. Took out a soldering iron and fixed it for free.

Okay, I couldn’t find my receipts, at least not yet, sorry for that.
Was five years ago that I purchased. The part numbers : key blank 996-538-531-00. Remote transmitter 996-637-243-01

That info might help. I’m pretty sure I bought the fob for $60.00 from Sonnen Porsche
the remote from Sunset Porsche $100.00
Then I took car, title and new key, etc. to
Porsche dealership in Grand Rapids. They charged $100.00 to cut key and program.

I’ll keep looking for those receipts. I only found the dealership receipt.

That's not been my experience. I ordered a blank and fob from Suncoast Porsche. My Indy programmed my fob after calling the local PSC with my vin, to get the code. Then I took the blank to A1 lock and safe, just a local company, who cut the blank. So your experience is puzzling.

I've never tried to get this done through an indy shop. Just dealers and that's what they told me. Maybe I should try an indy!

Both my fobs failed. Tried new batteries. Then I bought the DIY kits to solder in new contacts. My skills must be lacking as neither was fixed with this either.

Right now I just live with manually opening and locking with the key{s}. I will likely get new ones made and pay the freight.

Keysinthepost.com for the manual key...all day long for the win!

Speaking of a dealer refusing to program the car for a new fob...Has anybody run into a dealer refusing to do the programming unless the FOB was purchased from their parts department? Just wondering.
