Default Hole in facing of instrument panel

I am looking at a 1999 911. There have been many modifications with the interior of the car. There is a hole in the instrument cluster area (see photo). What is the purpose of what was punched out? Was it a sensor or air vent? Can I safely cover the area withsomething solid or do I need air flow there? Any advice is appreciated.

There is a cover for that hole. Why is your voltage at 15V?
Look at dashboard trim for your year http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p..._911_parts.php

Maybe it was the microphone for the hands-free phone option? I doubt airflow is needed.

Frisbee is right, it was originally intended for the hands-free microphone for the OEM integrated phone. The factory option didn't really fly over here in the US because of compatibility issues with the Cell service providers... it quickly became obsolete.

BlueTooth for the win!

Here's the part number for ordering. You'll need to paint to match your gauge cluster color.

Porsche part# 99655262602A03

I learned something new today....Thats very cool... I haven't updated my stereo yet, seen many posts here....why isnt that used for the mic for the current updates? Perfect placement to talk on the phone while you drive?
