Behold Dual Row IMS Bearing @ 72k miles
I'm getting a bit of work done, and shop sent photo of my IMS. I've got an '01 C4, born June-'00, and it has a dual row. I know there's talk of when they went from single to dual, so wanted to add this as a data point.
Word back was that it looked completely fine--you never know.

Mine was fine too at over 100k miles. I wanted to keep it but it had to be sent in to have the IMS solution warranty. I think based on what I have read over the years of my ownership is the dual row held up quite well.

This was, I think, prior to have an LN type option available(2014)z

A perfect old bearing is exactly what you WANT to find when replacing it ....I know it hurts, to replace a perfectly good bearing, but a ball bearing should never have been used in this application....

100% on all fronts. For the cost I was hoping to hear something like "Oh you're so lucky, one more mile and boom"....I did ask them about the EPS roller bearing option, and they were happy to do it but said they didn't have experience. I would prefer a roller bearing, but since most buyers want the known LN I chose to go that route.

Did they take the seal off or was it like that when it came out?

I'm not sure at what stage there were at when they took the pic. It may not have had a seal on it like the OEM version(?), the original bearing was replaced at 35k, and the Porsche dealership installed whatever was available as dual row at the time(2014'ish).
