Subaru BRZ over 996 according to millionaires
Everyone's favorite elitist car podcast, spikes car radio, with guest Jerry Seinfeld, were asked by a listener; 'new brz or 996?'.
After mere seconds, Jerry and crew said they would have a BRZ. 'fresher'. 'newer' etc.
I would suggest then, that we take all of their collector 911s away, (is easy to find them, just look in the garage under a cover, they're driving 120k SUVs on the daily) and most of their money, and ask the same question.
Pfft...I would posit that they as a group are not really 911 or driving fans. They're simply bored rich collectors who like to buy shiny over priced air cooled cars, watches, and cigars. And then share their latest purchases over a podcast.
Side note, their sponsors are pure class...
If I were to recommend one automotive podcast, it would be Smith 'n Sniff. No elitism there. And far better humor. Thank me later.

- AG1 miracle fountain of youth pills!
- Something called Blue chews, for obviously bonerless old men children.
- And others.

The BRZ/GR86 both have some pretty suspect track records as far as engine reliability. Would be nice to see a 3 Cyl turbo from the GR Yaris/Corolla.

Carmudgeon Show and Smoking Tire are the two I enjoy. To be honest though, which car should I buy questions are pretty dumb. How is someone that is a total stranger to you supposed to know what car you will enjoy better? There is so much that needs to be taken into account that the people answering don't know that it's kind of impossible for someone to give you a genuine answer. If this was worded as "I'm looking at buying car x or car y and was curious how they would compare in terms of driving dynamics or driving experience on track and on roads" you might get a more useful response. Besides that they just answer these questions quickly and move on to the next one. Most of these guys don't own cars long enough to care about any of the gremlins they might have and might never experience them because they either move on to something else or drive it 100 miles in a year. I do respect Jason Cammisa because not only does he drive the **** out of his cars but also does much of the work on them. That along with his crazy spreadsheet of test cars he's driven would put him at the front of giving you some useful feedback.

I have both. The BRZ / 86 has superior steering feel, driving position, ergonomics, balance and is more accessible. Also gets much better mileage and has been (in my case) very reliable in the 6.5 years I've owned it. And it's more spacious and practical yet more compact. Clocked 150 on the German autobahn so it's not exactly slow.
I still bought a 996 though . They're not really an either / or proposition.
As a daily, I'd go BRZ any day. As a fun car, whilst they may cost the same to purchase, running costs are quite different and I doubt they get crossed shop much.

996 and BRZ = Chalk and cheese
Spike is your typical Porsche deviated stitching enthusiast.
Everything is about paint to sample and special wishes.
Most people would find it difficult to come off as douchey as they do naturally.

I don’t think they put any REAL thought into that answer and the perspective of ppl with blank checks and garages full of unattainable stuff is something I put little stock in. And the reality is the reliability/cost of repair factor for anyone that really KNOWS (which I believe Spike and Jerry do), is a huge red flag. There’s just no denying it.
That said, I’ve casually met Spike several times and he’s always pleasant and funny, and very down-to-earth. I have no axe to grind with him or his show. You really can’t take **** like this that seriously.
