Default Manual Seat Adjustment

I am only 5' `10" tall, yet I need the driver seat as far back as it will go and would like to go back a bit more.. I feel that it should go further for a taller person. Could there be a bind somewhere? Can the seat be reinstalled at a position further back?

What seats are in the car?

The seat rails on the manual seats can get pretty gummed up with crud making them difficult to move. I'm the second owner, but the first owner dropped a lot of dried fruit and pretzels into the rails. I had to take mine out to clean and lubricate them. Also, is the seat in the lowered position? It will go back a couple inches just by lowering it.

Manual seats, only power is back tilt. I may not have it in the lowest position. I guess it makes sense that a taller driver would lower the seat.

OP - So the general problem is the outside portion of the 996 seat contacting the carpet at the base of the pillar. A product like Extend-A-Seat may not even work for you, if that's the case. I don’t know if the 996 sport seats are slimmer. I do know the 997 hardbacks (using 996 rails) gave me more aft room in the lowest position…even more than the Extend-A-Seat did with the 996 couches.

I'm not familiar with Extend-a-Seat. More detail please.

I have sport seats, it’s still pretty tight. Funny as I was thinking the opposite, that switching to non-sport seats might buy me some more leg room.

Lack of leg room in the 996 was a real surprise. The 968 had at least 2 more inches. Even my 914 had more.

Just checked to see if seat base was hitting area below b pillar and it has about 2" left before it would hit. However it stops solid when I slide it back. Clearly the track sliding mechanism is the issue.
I also have had all the leg room I needed and then some with early 911's, 914's, 924's and 928's.

I'm 5'10" and have more than enough seat adjustment. I'm nowhere near full rearward adjustment. I think there is something going on with the mechanism. My 2002 sliders didn't move very well, and I pulled the seats to clean and lube the mechanisms which made a huge improvement. However you said you're hitting a hard stop so something else is going on.

Disconnect the battery, take out 4 bolts, disconnect the wires, pull the seat.

Appears I will be taking the seat out. Also occurs to me I haven't checked to see if the passenger seat is the same. That might tell me something.
