Default Where are all the 996s?

Made it out to a GGR PCA cars and coffee yesterday (Pete's coffee in Los Gatos) and was surprised at the lack of 996's in attendance.

Good representation of 986's, 987's, 944's, 968 (at least 1), a 914, 356, air cooled 911's, a soft top 911 targa....... GT cars of every color (GT3/GT3 RS's, GT4/GT4 RS's) multiple silver 993 C4S's

Plenty of 991, 992 variants, but only one 996........ lots of 997s..... I just found it strange at the lack of 996's. (also no 928's)

Is this the norm? (are 996 owners too religious to attend a cars and coffee on Easter?)

-Eric
04 996
99 986
09 987.2 CS (too recently departed to discuss)
90 964 (rear ended by a school bus)
90 944S2 (little old lady in a Honda tried to drive over the hood)
87 951 (failed drivers ed)

I don't know about everyone else, but I am constantly in church praying my engine doesn't pull a holy hand grenade...

It is. I go up to a couple cars and coffees around me. Griffith Park, La Canada, and Newcombs. I maybe see ONE other. It's always a treat seeing a GT3 or GT2 996 though.

I was at the Redwood region C&C in Novato and had no idea the GGR one was at Los Gatos even though I'm a GGR member. /shrug

PM me the day before and I'll be happy to come out lol, I wish they'd be more communicative about their events.

Easter Sunday for some but “Transgender Day of Visibility” according to the government.

Perhaps that explains the lack of 996s.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Last Tuesday was the 7 year anniversary of me purchasing the 996 and in that time, I've never seen a 996 at any local events. Heck, just driving around, if I see one per year, it's a big deal.

Better track cars than C&C maybe ? Normally see a fairly good turnout for the track days in these parts.

I stopped going to C&C events 15 years ago. Snobs. Poo pooed my 996 and told me I was a fool for owning one. 15 years and I'm hoping some of them are dead by now. Long live my 996! Still running strong @ 149K miles...I can do this myself, and I turn 68 this year. Ha!

Years ago, I could purchase 356s for hundreds of dollars, many with patched-up floors and ventilated by the tin worms as everyone was moving on to the new. Owning and driving a 996 reminds me of the early days, over forty years ago, when I drove my 914 to gatherings. There were the same snobbish issues, but today, just look at how they revere those ugly Volkswagen Porsche 914s. Look, I admire all the newer versions, but I wonder how most of these will age, especially with all the electrical gremlins that 996 owners face.

I agree with the snob factor, but there tend to be a few people that appreciate the cars, more than worship the latest ….. and those are the people you can have a good discussion about keeping the cars going, or local events (my preference is Autox…. Get a great feel for the cars capabilities without the possibility of an off track excursion…..). And most important, which shops locally know the 996….

I was happy to see another 996 at the PCA autox, I am seeing them pop up more and more at C&C events too.

Over 175,000 996s sold. Good percentage sitting in the US. Maybe they lost their umbrella?.

Yeah...maybe after 25 years the stigma is finally wearing off...maybe.
