Default Air Intakes, Electric Supercharge

Ok, I've got a FABSPEED intake kit, an EVO intake kit, and the original intake hardware. I'm going to order an electric supercharger fan and try to make something work from these parts. Has anyone tried this before? I've seen the echargers on older 911's but never a 996 variant. My car is fast, but it can be faster! They say 7-10% gain is the normal. That would put me in the upper 300's if it works....................... What are your thoughts?

Has anyone experimented with NOS?

What are some other tricks? My car is already very light at about 2820 lbs.

What mods are you installing to get you to the upeer 300's? An electric fan won't do it.

Dallas,
Have you weighed you car at 2820 or are you estimating. I suppose it is possible. My race car is at 2875 with a roll cage but I can't imagine getting a street car that light.

As for the air fan, I think I would get a money back guarantee if I were you. Is there a web site?

NOS is always interesting but I've never thought it made much sense in a 911. The car is meant to turn fast, stop fast and be very durable on the track. NOS seems better suited for cars that you want to make go very fast in a straight line. Might be fun though.

2912 minus mufflers, minus spare, minus cats.

I know a fan won't do it, I'm not a dumbass.

The car has been setup with many modifications and is presently around 340 hp. This fan kit promises 4%-6% guarantee with estimates of 7-8%. If you go with two fans, it's more than 10%.

I know this sounds like a dumb idea but hey, why not try it................ If it does not work, I can take it off.

Also, the intakes are not all on my car at one time, I've tried several different intakes and have extra parts. I'm planning on using these parts to adapt the fan to my car. If it makes 20 hp, I'm happy. My car is already much faster than most 911's in the area. I swallowed up a new cab just a few days ago. This car is so much quicker than my C4 could ever hope to be.

I've thought about supercharging but I've not made a decision yet. I have superchargers on my boat and when I'm in the throttle, I always expect something to break. I really don't want that feeling when I'm driving my car, or do I????????

LOL!!!! Bluntly put, the amount of air that an electric fan of the size small enough to fit into the intake can not move the volume of air the needed pressure to give you their claimed power increase.....period. Sounds like a product you would find in the magazines back in the early 70's. Not only can't the fan blades move at the necessary RPM (that would be 10's of thousands of RPM's) but just the mass of the fan blades and housing will reduce the CFM of air into the intake. If you want real HP gains, go with a SC. My guess is that you will actually reduce power of the engine. Any presuure the electric fan may accidently create in the intake chamber will be thrown back at the fan causing it to slow down. No increase in pressure will ever make ot to the cylinders. JMO.

http://www.electricsupercharger.com/

Above, is a link to the website. The fan operates at over 25k rpm. Boost is 1 psi. I'm skeptical as well (ex-engineer) but the cost is minimal and I've seen other examples do well.

How many miles are on your SC car? Have you had any issues? Will Porsche work on your car?

I have 45,000 miles on my March 1998 built 996 C2. More than 13,000 miles since the SC installed. No issues and I keep increasing the boost every few months. Now about 6.5 psi and loving it. I NEVER allow Porsche to touch my car. If I can't figure out the problem myself, it cannot be fixed. I guess if I need a repair that dictated Porsche tools, etc, I would have no alternative but to go to them, but that would be my last resort.

I use no oil between oil changes, engine runs at factory spec temperature.

I hate to break it to you dallas but your car likely weighs well over 3000 lbs. To be under 2900 you must remove the stereo, carpeting, rear seats, replace the front seats with racing seats, replace windscreen with lexan, add mag racing wheels and light weight r compound tires, remove door panels, remove driver's window, etc., etc.
Sorry,
Jim

That's not true JimB!!! With his DUAL ELCTRIC BLOWERS Installed, he can remove both front wheels and simply pull a continuous wheely around town with the tremendous power his setup will give him.

Don't apologize. I'm guessing and taking the numbers from here http://www.flat-6.net/forum/showcar....ar_model_id=27

I assume these numbers are correct, but maybe it's a misprint. Anyways, I've removed more than 100 lbs from the car without a doubt, that's where my reasoning came from, 2919-mods =about 2820.

I do know this, C2's are much lighter than C4's and TT's. The same page lists c4's at 3263 lbs. This is a very noticable difference between the two cars. I prefer the lightness and 2wd vs my previous c4. The c4 was great but my grandmother could have driven it fast.

Are these those "Supercharge any car for $69.95" ?

The ones that "create a venturi affect in your intake tubing? Improve gas milage by up to 30% ?

If so I really have to find that dyno sheet I have from a friend of mine who tried one of these things out. The car was a '96 Acura Integra, in some spots of the run it lost as much as 4 hp with only gaining a total of 1 hp in the car's vtec rpm range.

How can this product still exist

Dallas,
I've been trying to tell you that you are full of $#@#$ nicely. 911 has been a little more direct. So here's how it is. Your car doesn't weigh 2820 lbs. I'd bet money that it's over 3100. If your mods consist of removing the cats and mufflers and adding an air intake, you have somewhere between 290 and 310 hp, not 340. Don't believe me? Put it on a dyno.

Here is some unsolicited advice. Buy a Rennlist membership and dig in. There is a lot to be learned about your car. The most important thing to learn is that 99% of companies selling upgrades lie. Hell, Joe at FB will tell you that they lie just to compete with the other liars.

I'm done,
Jim

IF you want a true weight....go to one of those truck gas stations or the like. They have scales that you can just rollup on and get a printout fro about $5. I did this when I had to weigh my Uhaul before and after during a military move. Just make sure you gas tank is near empty and you are NOT in the car at the same time. VOILA! NOw you have a baseline to start from.
